Our prayers are with those suffering from the effects of the Easter Sunday tornados and bad weather. We extend our sympathy to families who lost love ones. Please remember them in your prayers.
Our hearts are saddened by the transition of Rev. Eddie Adams who transitioned Wednesday, April 9th. Rev. Adams, pastor of St. Peter M. B. Church in Forest, was a graduate of Hawkins High School, Class of 1965, and attended Tougaloo College until he was drafted into the U. S. Army. Rev. Adams, a retired postal worker, was very active in Clinton, MS community activities and was one of the original members of the Hawkins High School Class of 1965 Association. He was remembered by his family as “one who loved the Lord, and the wisdom and strength of our family.” Our prayers are with his family, especially his wife, Mrs. Bobbie Adams, and their children, Bettina (Henry, II) Odom, Eric Adams and Elgin Adams. Our prayers are also with his siblings, Betty Cook, Mari Adams, Roy Adams, and Terry Gray, and his Church family.
Members of Rev. Adams’ St. Peter’s M. B. Church recalled that “Pastor Adams was a great leader and a God-sent man. He always encouraged us to seek God in prayer for every endeavor the Church sought. He believed there wasn’t anything we couldn’t do with God as our guide. He will be greatly missed, and our prayers are with his family.” Visitation is from noon until closing at People’s Funeral Home in Jackson April 14th and a graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 15th at 11:00 at Autumn Woods Cemetery. Please keep his family in your prayers.

Belated birthday greetings to Morton Alderwoman Onedia Laster who enjoyed her special day April 10th by continuing to serve others. Congratulations!!
We enjoyed Good Friday and Holy Saturday masses televised from St. Peter’s Cathedral at the Vatican in Rome. We were reminded that during this pandemic, we are one and have the same fears, concerns and anxieties without regard to race, sex, religion, political affiliations, and economic status.
We enjoyed our conversation with Dr. Chris Brown, son of Dr. Bobby and Mrs. Janice Brown of Jackson. Dr. Chris Brown is a graduate of Hampton University, University of Connecticut and Meharry Medical School. He works face to face with COVID-19 patients day after day. For the past three weeks, he has been working exclusively where the halls are lined with respirators and hoods for the staff. He said, “Patients can become very, very sick, very, very easily and very, very quickly. Things can change on a dime.” When I asked what I could do to help, he responded, “Prayers.”
Special thanks to the Little Rock M. B. Church family and Pastor Sheldon Thomas for sharing their Easter services with us. We enjoyed the traditional speeches by the children and the beautiful music they shared. Pastor Thomas delivered another challenging and informative sermon which was entitled “Run Tell That.” He reminded us of the connection between Adam, Eve and the Tree of Knowledge, and Jesus, Mary and the Cross. He encouraged our youth to be receptive and respectful of the experienced elderly, and to use the COVID-19 pandemic to enjoy God’s blessings.
It is most unfortunate that scammers are alive and well even during this period of uncertainly, anxiety, and health challenges created by the virus, COVID-19. Please be aware of the following suggestions to avoid COVID-19 scams: (1) Hang up on calls promising a stimulus check. The federal government and Small Business Administration will not call you requesting personal information like Social Security Number and banking information in exchange for a stimulus check. (2) Hang up on robocalls. Scammers pose as salespersons to get your personal information and money. (3) Ignore offers for vaccinations or home test kits. There is no proof that these products work. (4) Look out for phishing emails and texts. Do not click on links you were not expecting and always verify the sender. (5) Research before you donate. Get tips for donating at ffc.gov/charity.
