Food For Thought: This past weekend we traveled to Charleston, South Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia while in Charleston we visited the Historic City Market. Sweet grass baskets are made on site by locals. This style of basket was originally made to winnow rice on local plantations. Today, sweet grass baskets are works of art and highly sought after souvenirs.
For more than 300 years, people in Charleston have been weaving baskets using locally harvested bulrushes, a strong yet supple marsh grass that thrives in the sandy soil of the Low Country. While there we visited the Battery, known as the Battery Park. The popular Park is located in downtown Charleston where the Cooper and Ashley Rivers meet.
We definitely enjoyed family and taking in the sites.
