We are sorry to learn of the death of Mrs. Mary Earline Rasco Williams, who transitioned Monday, March 18th. Mrs. Williams was a member of the E. T. Hawkins Class of 1966. Our prayers are with her family.
Our prayers are with the family of the late David C. Wynn, first African American Hattiesburg Chief of Police and former MS Highway Patrolman. He transpired Friday, March 15th and is remembered for his theme, “Friendship is essential to the soul.” Please remember his family in your prayers especially his wife, Joanne, and children, David, Jr. and Brittany.
Our prayers are with the family of the late Mr. Benjamin Franklin Pettus who transitioned March 17th in Oakland. He is the nephew of Henry Q. Williams and the late Percy Rogers and George Peter Williams. Memorial services are scheduled for March 30th at New Hope Baptist Church in Meridian. Please keep his family in your prayers.
Our prayers are with the family of Angela Denise “Nink” Gray, daughter of Shirley Gray Johnson and John Calvin Jones. She transitioned March 10th at her home in Lake. Her memorial was Saturday, March 16th at Union Grove M. B. Church with Rev. Robert Johnson officiating and delivering the eulogy. Mrs. Rhonda Weathersby was the mistress of ceremony and other program participants were Rev. Shelton Thomas, Cheryl Swanson and other friends. Please remember her family in your prayers, especially her partner Howard Hunt, and mother Shirley Gray (Steve) Lewis. Dunlap and Thames Funeral Home was in charge.
Members of the Martha and Mary Ministry of St. Michael Catholic Community continued to implement their mission and serve as the feet and hands of Jesus. During their March meeting, Tuesday, March 12th, special prayers were offered for all of God’s children, especially Angel Martinez, Mitch and Mary Nichols, Flo Chambers, and Ronnie Thomas.
Happy belated birthday to Mrs. Gertrude Walk who celebrated her 99th birthday Sunday at the MS Care Center. Her church members from Concord M. B. Church took the party to her and surprised her with flowers, cake and ice cream. Concord Mission members Carolyn Knowles and Delora Nelson delivered the birthday love.
Legacy’s board of directors held their quarterly meeting at the Legacy Administrative Office Sunday, March 17th and expressed appreciation to the local supporters and donors. Stakeholders in the Save Our Youth through Community Action and volunteer mentors for the In-School Mentoring Program were applauded for their efforts. Scott Central and Hawkins Middle School administrators and instructors were likewise applauded.
Philadelphia native Jerry Smith was the speaker for the Little Rock M. B. Church Sunday services and he was introduced by School Board Member Greg Nicks. Both are members of Gideon’s International. We enjoyed the presentation and better understand the mission of Gideon’s International. We appreciate their Bible distribution and message. Rev. Sheldon Thomas is the pastor.
We enjoyed the message from Rev. Willie Jones as he spoke to the MS Care Center residents. Mrs. Pauline Bryant and Mrs. Johnnie Jones were present and offered assistance. Alderwoman Cynthia Melton and Forest Elections Commissioner Dorothy Pinkston enjoyed Rev. Jones’ message as much as the residents. Thanks Rev. Jones for sharing the Word with the residents.

Items for sale include tables, chairs, clocks, dishes, linen, throws, towels, clothing for the entire family, and many, many other items. The sale, to be held at the Slaughter Block on Highway 80, begins at 7:00 and ends at 4:00 on Friday and Saturday. Proceeds will benefit Legacy’s In-School Mentoring Programs at Hawkins Middle School and Scott Central Attendance Center.
