Local attorneys joined other Second Chancery Judicial District attorneys Friday at the Newton Depot on June 20th. Chancellor Robert Logan invited attorneys to participate in a community outreach session and to learn new court rules. Attorneys agreed to increase community involvement. Scott County attorneys were a step ahead because of their 2018 Free Legal Clinic. Local attorneys attending included Norman Brown, Chris Gomillion, Hez Hollingsworth, Shawn Harris, Tanya Carl, Noble Lee, and bar president Constance Slaughter-Harvey.
Happy belated birthday to Mrs. Loyce Collier who celebrated her 93rd birthday Friday and Saturday with her family and friends. A special birthday barbecue party was enjoyed by Mrs. Collier and party-goers. Happy birthday!!!
Congratulations to Andre’ Hollis on his recent promotion. After having served at Roosevelt for more than 20 years, he now heads the State Department of Parks as State Director of Parks Operations in Jackson. Kudos and special congratulations to Director Hollis for his dedication and commitment to our Scott County community and to the entire state. We are pleased that he will maintain his residency in Scott County!
Constance Slaughter-Harvey celebrated her 73rd birthday with a brunch with Legacy Campers, and then on to Jackson where she enjoyed a birthday luncheon at Table 100 with 1967 graduates of Tougaloo College. They also enjoyed an evening of fun there. For dinner, she was surprised by her daughter and family at Table 100. On the following day, she and daughter Constance and grandson James travelled to New Orleans where they enjoyed touring the Audubon Insectarium. It showcases the largest group of animals on the planet – insects.

July 8th is the deadline to register to vote in the August 6th primary elections. The office of the circuit clerk will be opened for registration Saturday, July 6th until noon. Circuit Clerk Becky Gray’s office will observe the July 4th holiday on Thursday and Friday, but will open on Saturday for registration.
