We are sorry to learn of the death of Lefore County Supervisor Robert Moore who was injured in an auto accident last week and transitioned days later. Memorial services were held Saturday, December 8th. Please remember his family in your prayers.
Congratulations to retiring Chancellor David Clark who was honored Thursday by family, friends and colleagues during his Retirement Reception held at the Scott County Courthouse. MS Supreme Court Chief Justice William Waller expressed appreciation for his integrity and leadership. He also praised his work in the electronic document filing of all court documents.
Judicial College director Randy Pierce likewise praised Clark for his leadership and exemplary services. Chancery Clerks Lee Ann Palmer (Scott), George Hayes (Newton) and Barbara Ravenhorst (Jasper) expressed their appreciation for his service and support. Resolutions from Senator Terry Burton, Representative Tom Miles, and the Scott County Board of Supervisors were presented.
Mayor Nancy Chambers presented appreciation remarks and Mayor Gerald Keeton presented a resolution to Morton’s Favorite Son. Members of the local bar associations presented resolutions and other expressions. Constance Harvey, who was also mistress of ceremony, presented a clock plaque for the Scott County Bar; Brian Mayo presented a resolution from the Newton County Bar; and Ricky Ruffin presented a resolution from the Jasper County Bar.
Dr. Howard Clark saluted and thanked his son, and Attorney H. D. “Trey” Clark shared his appreciation, admiration and love for his father. The honoree thanked his family, fellow jurists, attorneys and lay advocates, for their support and cooperation. He also thanked citizens of the district for their support of his judgeship for the past 29 years.
Other program participants included J. Norman Brown and Rick Clark. Special thanks to the Steering Committee members Carolyn Cooper, Cynthia Melton, Ebonee Leverette, Lisa Addy and Constance Slaughter-Harvey. We will miss Chancellor Clark and wish him well as he enjoys his retirement.
Congratulations to Seventh District Chancellor-elect Willie Perkins, former member of the MS House of Representatives. We wish him well and thank him for his support of our community’s youth over the past 30+ years. We congratulate other newly elected judges and wish them well.
Forest Rotarians and guests enjoyed their Annual Rotary Gala held Thursday night at the Forest U.M. Church’s Fellowship Hall. Forest Rotary President Renae Harrell welcomed all and shared the work and mission of Rotary’s benefactors via power point. The event was most impressive! Alderman Matt Alford was the master of ceremony and he was introduced by Mayor Chambers. The annual drawdown was the main attraction and it was full of suspense and enjoyment. The winner was Mrs. Jo Taylor who donated her $1,000 prize money to the Forest Rotary Club for continuation of their work for the community’s residents. Thanks Jo!!!!
Congratulations to Sister Rita Goedken, Franciscan Sister at Morton’s Excel Center. She was honored by the Excel board, staff, volunteers and beneficiaries on the occasion of her retirement. There were tears but there was also joy in knowing that Sister Rita made a difference in the lives of so many in Scott County. The Reception was held at the Excel Center September 8th and was well attended. We will miss Sister Rita!
St Michael Catholic Church community paused following Mass and paid tribute to Sister Rita in the Parish Hall and celebrated her contributions at the Retirement/Appreciation Reception. She was recognized and received special blessings from Pastor Roberto Mena during Mass. She was showered with love and appreciation as well as special treats for her ‘sweet tooth.’ Sister Rita will be missed and we are grateful that she lived and worked among us. We wish her well in her retirement and look forward to staying in contact with her from her Iowa home.
The Cluster Club celebrated Christmas with a Covered Dish Celebration Wednesday, December 4th at the MS Extension Center Building. The members enjoyed games, food, and wonderful fellowship. Members present were President Connie Stewart, Mesdames Ester Perry, Dorothy Strong, Carolyn Macon, Mary Lofton, Desaree Bradford, and Alderwoman Cynthia Melton.
Scott County JSU Alumni Association was represented in the Forest Annual Christmas Parade November 30th with the winners of the JSU Little Miss/Mr. Jackson State Pageant. Representing JSU were Chance Kincaid, Adrianne Derrick, Bella Evans, Patsy Bland, and Praydden McGee and Prashala McGee. Thanks to the driver of the decorated car, John McGee, father of Praydden. Thanks to members who decorated the car, Carolyn Macon and Ann Bryant West. A special thanks to the community for supporting JSU alumni in this fundraiser.
