Seventy years wedding anniversary celebration!
Bro. Leon Everett and wife Myra will be having a celebration of their 70th year wedding anniversary on next Saturday, 4/21/18, at Good Hope Baptist Church. Time is 2-4 p.m. and all friends are invited. (No gifts, please). I went to their wedding and Myra lived with his parents, in Good Hope Community, and finished high school while Leon was in service. I also went to the ordination service when he and Billy Hollingsworth were ordained as Baptist Ministers.
Some of my winter clothes, that were put up, have had to be taken out again due to our late spring. We most certainly get our “money’s worth” from purchasing rain gear in Mississippi! This weekend had to have been a record rainfall and I was amazed to see that it had all drained off on Sunday morning at my place. It was one that must have given the fish a hard time to survive and not even fit for the ducks!
Some have asked about my family, James and Barbara Emmons, in Santa Rosa, Ca. They were the ones whose property was destroyed by the fires in October last year. They have got all the burned structures removed, but still have no electricity, therefore have no water from their well. They purchased a camper to, hopefully, get hooked up when they are there seeing to all that is involved to get a modular “mother-in-law” type 1,200 sq. ft. home erected, as state law won’t approve anything larger.
There are so many rules and regulations and “hoops” to go through to start building a dwelling house back, but they are going to build back. Their vineyard was not hurt, except a large wooden gate that burned. They have to have a metal deer proof fence to keep the deer out.
James will be 92 in a few days and his neighbor told him that he was his “hero” in seeing what he could physically do. James said, “I feel like I am 75 in a 92 year old’s body.” The neighbor said, “I feel like a 92 year old in a 75 year old’s body.” That Mississippi “raising” must have made him a stronger man. Times were certainly much harder in his childhood and children had to work to help with farm work at a early age.

Those that did not attend the “Senior Spring Rally” this past week at New Liberty, really missed a treat! Barbie Bassett, guest speaker, was a great down to earth Christian speaker! She talked about being raised in a strict Christian home with parents who set boundaries and taught them how to work. Her parents were and still are farmers in the Delta. They had to “chop” cotton, drive tractors and other chores growing up. They weren’t allowed to watch programs on TV such as Dallas as they were told what goes in your mind comes out in your actions!
She homeschools her three children and limits their time on electronics just as her parents did. She has a new published book “Carry An Umbrella When There’s No Rain In The Forecast” that is 365 days of Living By Faith devotionals. She also read several emails that were sent to her advising her, your hair is awful, get it cut, that blouse you had on the other night on the weather news looked terrible — throw it away, do you plan to stay pregnant all the time, you are too fat. She said it was hard to please some people since she took Woody Assaf, long standing, male weather forecaster’s place. Our thanks to New Liberty Baptist for hosting this event, to all the sponsor’s who contributed gifts for the drawing, the vendor’s who were there and health care providers who performed health tests!
My daughter, Pam Jeffries, son, Lee Thompson and wife, Holly, sons, Caden and Caleb went to Gulf Shores, Al. for the weekend to celebrate birthdays. They reported a great time of surf fishing and enjoying being together. They especially enjoyed missing the bad weather day here over this weekend!
Quote from Barbie's book - “Worry comes naturally. Having faith that God will take care of your needs when you think you’re about to shrivel up and die due to waiting on His timing takes courage. If you trust Him, you will bear fruit even during the dry spells.”
Have a God blessed week!
