Freedom is not Free!
June 6th is the anniversary of World War II “D-Day” invasion of Normandy. Allies invade Western Europe. (1944) It ranks the boldest and most successful, large scale, invasion in military history. Roughly 160,000 Allied Troops crossed the English Channel, supported by 7,000 ships and boats, and landed on the coast of Normandy. They established a broad head for which the Germans were unable to dislodge. Then within ten days, there were half a million troops ashore. Within three weeks there were two million. Allied forces lost around 10,400 servicemen and Germany lost 4,000 to 5,000 servicemen. There are over 9,300 servicemen buried there. (Copied from recorded history)
Do you think we should take another look at what our freedom means? We are blessed beyond measure!
“I am old but I am forever young at heart. We are always the same age inside. Know that you are the perfect age. Each year is special and precious. You can only live once. Do not regret growing old. It’s a privilege denied to many!” (Rich Gere)

“We Made It, We Depend On It, We’re Drowning In It. — PLASTIC.” In the June 2018 National Geographic there is a wake-up call about this product. “150 years ago we created a light-weight, strong, and inexpensive material. Today this miracle material helps keep our hearts beating and planes in the air. More than 40 percent of it is used just once then tossed. Some nine million tons of it ends up in the ocean each year. ‘The working life of a plastic bag is 15 minutes.’ The largest market for plastic today is for packaging materials. That thrash now accounts for nearly half of all plastic waste generated globally, most of it never gets recycled or incinerated. Plastic is taking a toll on wildlife. Animals eat it, get stuck in it. For them, plastic is turning the ocean into a minefield. — How Can We Stem the Tide? Plastic can be made more biodegradable. But, we still need to recycle more — and use less!”
On visits to California, several years ago, I was shocked that department stores did not furnish anything to put items purchased in. When you bought items of clothing, you paid for it and put across your arms and walked out, unless you brought something to put it in. Same thing at all of their stores. We now do this at Sam’s Wholesale Stores.
Notable quotes: “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.” — “if you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” — “A Gentleman stood near me at a airport. His uniform bore a mass of. metals, and his shoes were spit shined. Filled with gratitude, I stuck out my hand and said, I’d like to thank you for your service.” “You’re very welcome,” he said. “Army,” I asked. “Yes,” he said, “Salvation.”
Joke of the week: Huey, a painter, limps into a bar, covered in bruises, cuts, and blooded scrapes. “Mickey, what happened to you,” the bartender asks. “Oh, I fell off a 50-foot ladder,” Mikey said. “You’re pretty lucky. You could have been killed.” “Not really,” says Mikey, “I was on the first rung.”
If these hot summer days are keeping you in your house and bored, I can suggest how to pass your time off and help keep your mind active. Our local Library has a tremendous amount of reading materials available, computers that are connected to the big wide Webb and more than willing personnel to assist you. I was given the name of an author that has a 15 book series, Thomas Kinkade, on “A Cape Light Novel.” I now have read number 14. This series is light, interesting, stories of a town called Cape Light. Try it, you might like it!
Janet and Harry Culpepper and daughter Jana and husband Jack Mayatt of Collinsville, Ms. spent some time last week in Gulf Shores, Al. They report fishing was not good, other than just getting out in a boat and enjoying the water. They were having a fishing tournament down there so they got to see lots of fine looking boats! Great to be with family!
Our Sunday School lesson was from 2 Sam. 1:22-27 and 2:1-7 titled “Respected.” It told how David respected and honored King Saul. Even though King Saul had tried to kill David, he did not disrespect him. This is a great lesson on how we, as Christian’s, should honor our Elected Officials. We can disagree with them, but we should still respect them.
Have a God blessed week and share it with others!
