Pray for our divided nation
Never in my lifetime, to my knowledge, have we had such divisions and hatred in our nation’s government. I realize that “every sneeze” is reported by the news media. Battles that were confined mostly in the walls of government and are now our constant news events. I had a family member, Milton Gordy, who worked in D.C. For many years in the Department of Agriculture. He was a Democrat and when that party lost power, he still had his title and office but his power was taken away. He filled us in on things that was happening during that time.
I am definitely for protecting our borders and accepting people who follow the correct method of entering! It grieves me that we have come to this in our nation! It is like the old saying of “Pandora’s Box” (classical mythology — box given to woman with strict instructions not to open it. Pandora’s curiosity soon got the best of her and she opened it. All the evils and miseries of the world flew out to afflict mankind.)
I feel for many of the 800,000 workers without pay! It is a shame that it has come to this causing tremendous hardship to many without pay checks. I went to an Army base and tried living there as a newlywed. We had friends there who had nothing to eat around the last few days of the month. I left after two months and got back to Scott County and back to my job. This was too close and personal to stay and maybe get in that same situation.
If you have never been to D.C. And surrounding areas or other parts of our nation, it is hard to imagine the current cost of living there. This is one example — my brother, Jim, in California parked in a handicap parking place with his current permit hanging as required.
When he returned he had a parking ticket for being there with an out of date permit. He had not thrown his 2017 permit away when he got his 2018 and mistakenly used the old one. After three visits to various agencies trying to get this resolved, he is still trying to get this $1,000 ticket removed.
In Mississippi anyone can park with those, that many times belong to someone else and also be out of date, and get by. The rules say that the person that permit was issued to has to be riding in that vehicle not his relatives. Last time I heard the fine was $250.
Someone once asked Billy Graham, “If Christianity is real, why is there so much sin in the world?”
To which he replied “With so much soap in the world, why are there so many dirty people in the world? Christianity, like soap, must be personally applied to make a difference in our lives!”
For those that have modern technology there is a Japanese woman that can tell people how to get rid of all their clutter (junk). You can find her on YouTube or Netflix. Search for — Tidying up with Marie Konda! It is very interesting to watch!
“Mirror, mirror on the wall (this is a new version) Mirror, mirror on the wall, it doesn’t matter if I’m short or tall. If I have skinny legs or my hips are wide, it only matters who I am inside. Blue eyes, brown, black or green, what makes me beautiful cannot be seen. When you look at me, don’t judge me by my parts, the most beautiful about me is my heart.” All of our daughters should be told that!
This weekend our local Kentucky Fried ran out of chicken? Many have commented on FB that this is not the first time this has happened. That is hard to imagine that happening in the “chicken capitol” of the world!
Germiest things in your grocery store.
(1) Shopping cart Handle. A study of 85 random shopping carts found that 50 percent carried E. coli, 72 percent contained coliform bacteria. That’s a good reason to wipe them down with sanitizing wipes!
(2) Child’s seat in shopping cart. As cute as kiddo’s are, leaky diapers and runny noses can leave it covered in germs. Wipe it down before putting your child in it!
(3) Produce aisle — when you think of all the people who touch and squeeze produce, it’s easy to see how bacteria can be transferred to fruits and veggies we love!
(4). Meat and seafood counters. Don’t buy packages that aren’t completely sealed or that are torn. Select only those that are cool to the touch.
(5) Self-checkout and credit card touch screens. 50 percent of those checked, had fecal bacteria on them.
(6) Reusable bags; Residue left behind from things like leaky milk, broken eggs and drippy meat can make those bags the germiest things you encounter. Leaving these bags in the trunk of your car on a hot day creates an especially fertile breeding ground for bacteria.
Finally, don’t use those bags for any other thing other than groceries. Even with all of those germs lurking in grocery stores, by taking a few precautions, you can help protect yourself from getting ill.
