He Has Risen
Today the meaning of Easter, for millions of Christians, is that of honoring and recognizing Jesus’ death and resurrection from the dead and the glorious promise of eternal life for all who believe in Him. Easter Sunday is one of the highest church attended Sundays of the entire year. The word Easter does not appear in the Bible. No mention of the early church’s celebration of Christ’s resurrection is recorded in the Bible.
“The greatest thing ever found was not a basket of eggs. It was the empty tomb. He is Risen!”
Today, for many, Easter is a commercial event as well as a religious holiday, with high sales of chocolate Easter bunnies, candies, colored eggs and baskets of other gifts. Easter can be anytime between March 22nd and April 25th. The date is decided by a complex set of calculations based on observations of the moon.
We think of Easter as the beginning of spring. If the old saying “if it thunders in February it will be a frost in April on that same day,” this may not be true this year. I have been told that it thundered February 28th.
Anyway, spring has to be closer by!
Dennis the Menace said, in looking at the sky, “If Heaven is that pretty on the bottom, think how it must look on the top!”
Be careful what you say when there are children around. “A mother invited some people to dinner. At the table, she turned to her six year old daughter and asked her if she would like to say the blessing.” The girl replied, “I wouldn't know what to say.” The mother said, “Just say what you have heard your mother say.” The daughter bowed her head and said “Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?”
(Joke). One day Adam asked God “why he made Eve so pretty?” God answered, “so you would love her.” He then asked God, “why did you give her such beautiful glowing hair?” God answered “so you would love her.” Then he asked God, “why did you give her such a beautiful figure?” God answered, “so you would love her.” Adam was very frustrated and asked, “But why did you make her so dumb?” God said, “Adam, that’s easy, so she would Love You!”
The weather this past weekend had a good part of Mississippi in a guarded time. I had family in Vicksburg and Starkville, as well as in warning areas. Prayers were answered when they were not harmed. Lightening is suppose to fertilize the soil and we sure had many strikes around my area. A few sounded like it was too close for comfort!
Prayer needs: Danny Williams, Jeff and Joyce Price, David Winstead, Abigail Knowles and Ray Morris. Sincere sympathy to the families of Pauline Croxton Pace, Cathy Hall, Robert Horton and the pilot of the small plane that crashed in Lake on Friday night, in their loss of loved ones.
I pray each of us will prepare our hearts for the Easter celebration of a Jesus’ resurrection showing that He loved us enough to bear our sins. His sacrifice gives each of us a free will to accept internal life by accepting Him as our Lord and Savior! Praises be to Him for this gift!
Have a blessed week!
