I read where the cost for Halloween nation wide is 2.4 Billion Dollars. This includes decorations, costumes, trick or treat goodies and 16 percent dress their pets up. Also, 25 percent of parents sneak their children’s candy while they are asleep. Gone are the days when mother’s made costumes, baked sweets and made popcorn balls for treats!
National Geographic discussed the “Science of Addiction” in their September 2017 issue. “Every 25 minutes in the USA, a baby is born addicted to opioids. They are diagnosed with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) a state of opiate withdrawal. It has become so common that the hospital ward devoted to it often have more infant patients than beds.” Their main story is about “How new discoveries about the brain can help us kick the habit.”
Some of my family were on trips this weekend. Pam Jeffries, her son Lee Thompson, wife, Holly and grandsons Caden and Caleb went on hiking trip in Tennessee Mountains. Janet, Harry and their son, Benjamin and wife, Katie Culpepper attended the Auburn/ MSU game on Saturday. After the game they went to Birmingham to spend the night with the Stutzmam's, Katie's parents. Next morning they went to Janet’s favorite place for breakfast — Cheesecake Factory and to church with the Stutzman’s. A wonderful weekend was reported by all.
In searching for an older recipe, I came across one for soda crackers. My Mom used to make them for us, before we starting purchasing them. It was amusing to note that after they have baked and cooled, store them in tin and they will keep up to a week. With 5 children they didn’t need storing away.
This is one I had forgotten about too:
Millionaire Pie
(1) can sweetened condensed milk,
(5) tablespoons lemon juice,
(1) cup crushed pineapple (will be better to use with sugar added),
(1) cup cut up maraschino cherries, drained and chopped with
(1) tablespoon of the juice,
(1) cup coconut,
(1/2) cup pecans and about
(1) cup cool whip.
Stir all above ingredients till blended (be sure to use lemon juice as this makes it get thick) and pour in graham cracker crust. Use the remainder of cool whip to garnish on top. Refrigerate for couple of hours or better overnight.
This only takes a few minutes to prepare! No cooking required!

Dr. Kevin Jones Pastor of FBC, Richland, posted this notice today on Facebook: For those who committed to “Pray A Circle” around our church for the next 40 days, today is the first day. This last week all of us, I think, have gotten disgusted with the NFL players and their actions. It was heartwarming to hear that Jimmy Jones, owner of Dallas Cowboys, told ALL players and anybody that works for him, down to the water boys , that they will stand for the National Anthem or be fired! Way to go Jerry!
Have a blessed week and share it with others!
