SLRFL Team celebrates 20th Anniversary this Friday
Our hearts are saddened by the death of Mr. Bobby Davis who was accidentally killed after a tree fell on him Friday, April 20th. He died doing what he loved. Our prayers are with his family especially his wife, Mrs. Myra Murrell Davis. Memorial arrangements are incomplete. Please remember his family in your prayers.
We are sorry to learn of the death of Mr. Darryl Dwayne Lucas who transpired Monday at Scott Regional. A beautiful memorial homegoing was held Saturday, April 21st at Christian Triumph M. B. Church in Morton. Rev. Frank Washington officiated and delivered the eulogy. Mrs. Ira Payton was the mistress of order. Other program participants included Revs. Reggie McCoy, Greg Miller, Darryl Moore, and Johnny Ray Morgan, Mesdames Ruth Miller and Stella Scott. Our prayers are with his family especially his wife, Mrs. Lizzie Lucas, and their children, LaDarren, Halle and Devin. Please keep them in your prayers.
Mrs. Phyllis Patrick was remembered as a soft-spoken, loving mother, sister, aunt, friend, and loyal and hardworking employee. She was memorialized Saturday, April 21st at Concord M. B. Church where Rev. Henry Patrick officiated and delivered the eulogy. Alderwoman Cynthia Melton was the mistress of ceremony and other participants included Rev. Floyd and Mrs. Louella McConnell, Mrs. Bobbie Hollis, Beverly Ware, R. C. Williams and Rev. Marcus Mann who made a presentation on behalf of Tyson Food where Mrs. Patrick worked for twenty years. Our prayers continue to be with her family.

The late Mrs. Pearl Clark was honored during the Jackson State University Scott County Alumni Chapter Annual Banquet, which was dedicated to her, held Friday, April 20th at the Forest Service Center. Alderwoman Cynthia Melton presided and other participants included Chapter President Maxine Gilmore, Elder Melvin Moore, Mesdames Ester Perry, Ruth Anderson, Lisa Darby, Rosie Kersh, and John Anderson, Rev. Walter Patrick, Representative Tom Miles who presented a Resolution from the MS State House of Representation, and Chineta Perry.
Jackson Attorney Johnny McDaniels, who was introduced by Ms. Naykisha Head-Darby, was the keynote speaker. Music was provided by the Scott County JSU Singers. Mrs. Toni Odom presented a Resolution on behalf of Community Bank. Congratulations JSU Alumni for such a wonderful and entertaining event. We join you in saluting and honoring your former President-Emeritus and JSU Life Golden Member, Mrs. Pearl Moore Clark!
Slaughter Library Relay for Life (SLRFL) Team Captain Cynthia Slaughter Melton and team members invite readers to come out to Gaddis Park this Friday, April 27th, from 4:30 until 8:30 to enjoy fun, delicious food, and fellowship. This is a special invitation to readers to join in the celebration of our 20th Anniversary. Readers are invited to share in the special anniversary cake. The traditional menu of cheese fries, ribs, hot fish will be available at the camp site.

The Legacy Education and Community Empowerment Foundation Board of Directors participated in their annual Retreat Saturday, April 22 at Roosevelt State Park. Participating in the Retreat, coordinated by The OLIVIA Group, and working to expand Legacy services and programs were Jane Morgan, Julian Williams, Denise Owens, Andre’ Hollis, Gerald Keeton, Josselynne Jones, Verna Myers, Stephanie Rhodes and Constance Slaughter-Harvey. This summer’s 8-week CARE Camp was approved and additional details will be forth coming. Special thanks to community supporters and donors.
St. Michael Catholic Community parishioners are reminded about the Church Clean Up Day this Saturday, April 28th at the Church at 9:30. Following the work session, pizza and other delicious treats will be provided. There will be a contest between the youth and adults and prizes will be awarded to the winners.
