Lynch Chapel Pastor Ashford bids farewell to Church Members
Our prayers continue to be with the family of Charvarus “Duke” Denham, Sr. who was memorialized Saturday, June 16th at New Bethel M. B. Church with Rev. Vincent Hopkins officiating and delivering the eulogy. Mrs. Kathy Sanders was the mistress of ceremony. Other programs participants included Nishondra Alvarez, Brittney Parrott, Davida Monya Fletcher, and Shekinah Denham-Taylor. Other friends and relatives shared beautiful expressions and tributes. Please continue to remember Duke’s wife, children, mother, twins, siblings and others in your prayers.
Our prayers are with the family of J. P. Tucker who transitioned June 8th at St. Dominic Hospital. A beautiful celebration of life was held Saturday, June 16th at Murray Temple Rebirth COGIC with Rev. Timothy Croff officiating and delivering the eulogy. Evangelist Rosa Stribling was the mistress of ceremony and other program participants included Reverends Terry Frazier, Sheldon Thomas, Ricky Hoye and Dwayne Pickett, and Mesdames Beverly Ware, Pearl Crook and Valerie Morrow. Please remember his wife Mrs. Evelyn Spender Tucker, his mother Mrs. Christine Tucker, and children Michael, Issac, Aaron, Rashawn, Jacarra and Dylan, in your prayers.

Members of the W. L. Slaughter Subdivision Homeowners’ Association met Monday, June 4, at the Slaughter Library and finalized their Subdivision signage. Present were president Carl Lamb, vice president Claudene Bell Hughes, Secretary Barbara Gray and other executive committee members Lena Glen, Mae Lizzie Jones and Rita Wash. Expressions of appreciation were shared for those meeting their assessment. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 3rd at 5:30 at W. L. Slaughter Library.
Rev. Anthony Ashford, a Starkville native assigned to Lynch Chapel six years ago, delivered a Farewell Sermon Sunday, June 17th to his Lynch Chapel U. M. Church family. His sermon, delivered on Father’s Day, was an expression of appreciation for the hospitality, courtesies and love for the past six years. He also challenged members to accept Christian responsibilities and avoid negative people and situations. He and his leadership will be missed according to many of his members. Best wishes Rev. Ashford as you put down your United Methodist roots in Winona.
District 6820 Rotarians participated in the District 6820 Rotary Assembly held in Brandon Saturday, June 2nd at the Municipal Building Auditorium. The District Governor Pam Smith, Assistant Governors and other officers gathered to receive training for the upcoming year. Constance Slaughter-Harvey was among the Assistant Governors attending and receiving training.
Family, church members and other friends sent special birthday love wishes to Mother Idell Payton Saturday, June 9th at the Forest Services Center. Mother Payton celebrated her 90th in the midst of love from her children and friends. Her daughter-in-law Ira Payton was the program guide. Rev. E. J. Shepard provided the occasion, and Johnny Morgan and the Forest Inspirational Singers provided music. Mrs. Viola Morgan spoke as a church member, former Election Commissioner Fannie Bradford shared her memories as a friend, and Alderwoman Cynthia Melton shared reflections as an inspiration to the community. Inspirational words were offered by Rev. Sheldon Thomas. Special presentations were presented by her children, with son Johnny Payton from New Orleans, representing his siblings. The food was first class and delicious and it was blessed by her church (Lynch Chapel U. M.) pastor, Pastor Tony Ashford.
Special shouts of appreciation are sent to the Forest Municipal School District Nutrition Director Mrs. Armer Moore, and to Crudup Ward Activity Center President Annie Crudup Lowery for their investment in our children with the Summer Feeding Programs. Members of the Sherman Hill/East Scott School Organization held their final planning session for the upcoming July School Reunion. Planning members present included Steve Denham, Willie E. Jones, George W. Lay and Mesdames Rita Parker, Ester Perry, Mae Williams, Minnie Lyles, Shirley Horton and Josephine McNair. The event is scheduled for the weekend of the 3rd week in July at Crudup Ward Activity Center and the final session is Sunday at Galilee Baptist in Lake.
The SCTS/ETHHS Alumni Association Planning Committee is meeting this Saturday, June 23rd at the Odessa Graves Building.
Legacy Mentoring Parents Meeting will be held Sunday, June 24th at 4:00 at the Slaughter Library.

She received high commendations for her historical museum relics and exhibits, many of which remain on reserve at the Library.
