Please remember the family of Mrs. Mary Lee Burks Lucious in your prayers. Her memorial was held Saturday, December 9th at Union Grove M. B. Church where her son, Rev. Derrick Lucious, officiated and delivered the eulogy.
We are sorry to learn that Paul Terry Reed has returned to St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Mr. Percy Parker of Brandon has suffered a stroke and is receiving therapy at the Methodist Rehabilitation Center. Please keep both of these men in your prayers and also remember those who are experiencing health challenges.
We enjoyed talking with Sid Salter and Mrs. Bonnie Russell Hodge and it is good to know they are both improving and keeping the faith. Mrs. Roseann Lynn expressed her appreciation for prayers and she is managing as well as can be expected. Please continue to remember her in your prayers.
The Scott County JSU Alumni Club hosted the annual Little Miss/Master JSU Baby/Youth Contest Sunday, November 12th at the Forest Services Center. Contestants were Laila Head, Nyla Laster, Bryleigh Martin, and JaKendrick Patrick. Bryleigh Martin was the winner of the Little Miss JSU and her sponsors were Niki Martin and Cynthia Melton. Little Master JSU was Jakendrick Patrick and his sponsors were Corneshia Patrick and Carolyn Macon. Mrs. Ester Perry was the mistress of ceremony and other club members present were president Maxine Gilmore, Lisa Darby, Rosie Anderson, Naykisha Head, Cynthia Melton and Carolyn Macon. The Club thanks parents and community for supporter in their annual fundraiser!
Locals attending the National Organization of Professional Black Natural Resource Conservation Service Employees Convention held at the Atlanta Airport Marriott Friday and Saturday, December 1-2nd were Jody and Shawanda Matheny, Bobby Joe and Sherrie Spivey, Gregory and Evelyn Nicks, Hope Collins, Rev. Charles and Ester Denham Watkins, and NRCS Soil Conservation Technician, T’arie Todman, daughter of Frank Taylor. Constance Slaughter Harvey, who received her life time medallion and jacket, and Dr. Glenda Glover, Tennessee State President, were workshop presenters. Congressman Bennie Thompson was the luncheon speaker and author, professor, commentator Michael Eric Dyson was the banquet speaker. His sermon-speech was most enjoyable, challenging and informative. We enjoyed the speakers, workshop leaders, food, hospitality, and challenging messages. The Forest/Scott County delegation was very well received.
Thanks to Morton Mayor Keeton and other city officials for the invitation to share their City Christmas Luncheon held at Farris Park Friday, December 8th. The food was most delicious and the hospitality was great! Merry Christmas!
We enjoyed visiting with Mrs. Mildred Guyse and Mrs. Willana Price. We also enjoyed our visits with Mrs. Lillian Gray and family, Mr. and Mrs. Carl (Louise) Lamb, Mesdames Debra Lowery, Carolyn Knowles, Marquita Patrick and Barbara Horton Longmire.
Hats off to Forest Rotarians for a wonderful expression of “Service above Self – Giving for the Benefit of Others.” Their annual Rotary Christmas Gala was well attended and enjoyable. It was held at the Forest U. M. Church where Anse Rigby was the entertainer for the evening. His singing and guitar playing added much to the celebration of giving. Legacy guests were Andrew Crudup, Henry and Shirley Slaughter, Dorothy Pinkston and Constance Slaughter-Harvey.
Dr. Michael Patilla, MS State University Professor of Music and Classical Guitar Award winner, will be presented in a Christmas Classical Concert, Saturday, December 16th at 2:00 p.m. The event will be held at Lynch Chapel U. Advent is a time to slow down and remember to prepare for Jesus’ birth. Let’s be a gift to others and prepare our homes and hearts for Baby Jesus.
