Respect in any situation goes a long way
Fifth Sunday Service in October will be held at Union Grove U.M.C. Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Theme for that Sunday will be “Friends and Family Together in Church.” All members are asked to invite family and friends. We would like for everyone to wear your family reunion t-shirt or your church t-shirt.
Please remember the sick, shut-in and bereaved members of our church and community.
I feel obligated to speak on some of the events that transpired at the Sebastopol and Noxapater Football game on Friday night. It was a close game a majority of the game, then in the 4th quarter the game seemed to spiral out of control. Tempers and emotions started to get the best of both teams as several unsportsmanlike calls were made by the Refs against both sides but more so on the side of Noxapater. And sadly, a member of the Bobcats was injured as a result of a play.
During the time as the medics attended to the injured player a commotion broke out and caused attention to be shifted from the injured player to the disruption on the visiting team side. Then once the player was placed in the ambulance, the team proceeded to celebrate.
These are my recollection events. There have been many statements, comments, and assumptions that have been posted across social media that are disturbing. Some of the behavior that I witnessed was disturbing. When I sat down and spoke with my son about it, he stated, “All I wanted to do was play football.” A simple statement and expectation.
There is so much happening in the world today and so much our children are exposed to that the enjoyment of a high school football game turns into social and political issue with so much negative connotation. It saddens me to know that when my child looks back at Homecoming for his senior year it will be associated with disruption and disrespect. Respect in any situation goes a long way.
