Union Grove/ Steele NewsBy BRENDA BOBBITT,
Do better in 2019 than in 2018
Union Grove United Methodist Church will host it’s Annual Usher’s Day Program on Saturday, January 12 at 5:00 p.m. Sister Dorothy Smith will be the guest speaker for the occasion. Please come out and celebrate the work of Union Grove’s Ushers and ushers everywhere.
Starting today, Union Grove/ Sylvester UMC will have Daytime Bible Study at Sylvester every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. Nightly Bible Study will resume tonight at Union Grove.
Patrick Community Center will be hosting it’s Annual MLK Walk. The Walk will begin around 9:00 a.m. on Monday, January 21. Please come out and participate in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Please remember this day is not just a day off from work and/or school but this day is a Day of Service. Dr. King often asked the question “What have you done to help others?” If you elect not to participate in a walk on MLK Day, I encourage you to extend a helping hand to a friend, neighbor or even a stranger.
I would like to say Happy Birthday to some of my church family who are celebrating birthdays in the month of January: Marilyn Jones, Lenora Bell, Alexis Hunt, Jerry Williams, Cedarius Bobbitt, Balik Bobbitt and Gail Butler. Happy 40th Anniversary to Willie Lee and Linda Bradford.
Our Pastor talked about New Year’s Resolutions and how we sometimes have a long list of specific things that we want or want to do for the new year. He encouraged us to have a simple resolution — Do better in 2019 than in 2018. I think this is a great resolution.
As each year goes by we all get smarter or wiser because of our experiences — hopefully. So as the years go on, we learn from our mistakes and hopefully not make the same mistakes twice. But sometimes it happens, thankfully our God is a forgiving God.
This year I plan to strengthen my relationship with God, my family and friends, and my community. I plan to do better in 2019 than in 2018. I encourage all of you to do the same. I hope you all have a wonderful 2019, I’m excited for the plans ahead.
