Two local teams move on to the second round of the Mississippi High School Activities Association Football Playoffs this week, and the other two in action last week saw their seasons end in Round 1. Forest and Morton advance and Lake and Scott Central set their sights on next year.
Playing at home last week the Bearcats now 9-2 overall and 4-0 in district 4A Region 6, defeated Choctaw Central 18-7 to advance. Forest, number one in the district, will host again this week when Poplarville comes to town. The Hornets, 6-4, 2-2, defeated Forest County Agricultural High School 49-20 last week.
Morton, also hosting last week. defeated West Lauderdale 35-16. The Panthers, 6-4, 3-1, and ranked second in district 4A Region 6, travel to Pass Christian this week. The Pirates, ranked first in 4A Region 8, are 10-1 on the season and 4-0 in district play. They defeated South Pike 52-32 last week.
The Lake Hornets, 6-5, 3-1 ended their season on home turf last week with a 49-16 loss to Mize.
Scott Central also closed out the season at home last week. The Rebels, 3-8, 3-1 lost 20-16 to Clarkdale.
