This Forest Bearcat and Senior Class President passed away peacefully at his home in the Goodhope Community following an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Scott County.
Jerry Lee earned his undergraduate degree from Mississippi College, and became a history teacher and football coach at Moselle High School, working his way through law school at night. After earning his law degree, he opened his law practice in Forest in 1968, and served for 42 years as the municipal judge in the City of Forest Court. He will be missed.
Over the Easter weekend, Barbara and Lamar Gatewood celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends at daughter Gayla and Shane Steed’s beautiful Florida home. Gayla and Alicia Joyner laughed and cried with their families, and spent two full days together as family recognizing the impact their parents have made on not only them, but also the love and example made on their children and husbands.
Last week Curtis DeHaven, son of long time Forest resident, Jewel Payne Hunt (1926-1982), who grew up on Banks Street, aka Pistol Avenue, visited Forest with his wife, recreating memories. They flew into Jackson and drove around Forest. He had not returned to the area since 1969, when he was eleven years old. They visited cemeteries, had lunch at Foothills, and stopped by the library, to get a feel for the town. And, oh yes, they were hoping to locate some chicken statues! He thought Forest looked quite good, though was deeply disappointed that the family home had been torn down, replaced with apartments.
Congratulations to Drew Kenna of the Bank of Forest, who has been elected to serve as president of Mississippi Young Bankers, a section of the Mississippi Bankers Association. Forest is proud of both Drew and his wife Kery, who have a very busy year ahead!
Judge Tom and Norma Ruth Lee were in Madison for family celebrations of granddaughter Claudia Ruth Maron’s 15th birthday. The next week they gathered to celebrate Judge Tom’s birthday. Joining them were Patty and Mike Robbins who were in town for their grandson Joel David Montgomery’s tennis team from Oxford High School. Earlier in the day, all the families enjoyed being able to cheer for Joel David’s tennis match before going to St Andrews to attend Claudia’s track meet. Both Joel David and Claudia had very successful competitions.
