Dr Jimmy and Sharon Hollingsworth were in Chicago Thursday until Monday for a meeting of the American Dental Association Board of Trustees. They enjoyed great food and fellowship while there got to see Hamilton on Sunday night before returning home on Monday. Great to travel but even better to be back home!
The weekend before Fat Tuesday Si Bondurant traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana, with his brother-in-law, Mike Fortenberry, and sister-in-law Melinda. His daughter, Leigh Lorraine, and daughter-in-law, Whitney, are members of the Krew of Iris and their parade rolled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday before Fat Tuesday. All had a grand time attempting to catch the trinkets thrown from the floats. The family also looked at a couple of condos in Uptown near Leigh Lorraine and Jay’s house in NOLA. (They learned at Christmas that Leigh Lorraine is pregnant with a baby boy expected to arrive around August 1st!) They anticipate more frequent trips to New Orleans once the baby arrives!
Love this further news bit: After practicing law for 50 years, Si Bondurant says he retired on December 31st. Fifty years is long enough to do any one thing! His legal assistant of 48 years, Paula Arceneaux, retired around August of last year, but continued to come in occasionally to help transfer files and close his practice. Initially she didn’t want to retire, but now that she has, she can’t be paid enough to go back to work. Apparently, she has gotten use to sleeping in and not having to put on makeup every morning and likes it.
Fred Slabach, the Dean of the University of Mississippi Law School, who Si met at his 50th Law School Class Reunion last May, emailed him last November and said he was coming to Jackson for a meeting, and asked if they could meet for lunch. Not being one to pass up a free lunch, Si accepted the invitation. They had a good visit and the dean shared that Ole Miss wanted to offer a course on Oil, Gas & Mineral Law in the Fall of 2026 and asked if Si would consider a position as an Adjunct Professor to teach the course. (Si confided to him the only thing he had ever taught was a Sunday School class at St. James, and that was to 3–5-year-olds! He had to take a course on the Catechesis of the Good Shepard that met one Saturday a month for a year before he was qualified to teach the Sunday School class.) The Dean said Si would only have to prepare and submit a class syllabus and his CV to the Adjunct Committee for approval before he could officially be offered the position. That was done in January and the Committee approved it, so, in the fall Si will be teaching law students how to be an oil and gas lawyer in 13 easy lessons. Now he finds that in his “retirement” he is reading through the Oil & Gas textbook and writing out lesson plans every day. His only hope is that Ole Miss will pay him enough money that he can afford to convince Paula to come out of retirement to help him prepare his lessons plans.
Always enjoy hearing and sharing when our Forest kids, grans, etc, do well in their sports activities! Tom and Norma Ruth Lee have enjoyed grandson Michael’s baseball games this season — and it sounds like Steven Lee’s baseball year has completely blossomed again for him, 16 months out from severe surgery!!! All hoped he would be able to get on the field some of his senior year; however, he has delighted many by playing every game, and pitching four winning games. Last Thursday night he pitched a shutout win over Starkville! We pray for Steven and all our players to stay healthy physically throughout the rest of this school year.
So proud of Anne Grace McKibbens, daughter of Woods and Virginia McKibbens of Homewood, Alabama! She is a granddaughter of the late Maybeth Ormond of Forest. She was nominated by a teacher for her Character. In addition to the award Anne Grace won (one of three special awards given by the district), she was presented a special pair of tennis shoes from Coach Sills! The other two area awards were given to young athletes from other schools within the district. The family loves and appreciates @djsillz and all of Anne Grace’s teachers and friends for seeing her heart and celebrating her! Such a fun surprise to cap off a great season!
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with David Tadlock, who was moved to UAB in Birmingham last week.
