Jake Walk
THE DRINK THAT POISONED A GENERATION: Bootleggers, eager to meet demand for liquor stole, redistilled, and diluted industrial alcohol to counteract the toxic additives. Thousands of people died in what researchers have called the “Chemist’s war of probation.” It was more out of ignorance than actually trying to kill people. Generally, politicians don’t like to kill people that elect them.
During that time victims got a permanent condition caused by drinking contaminated bootleg alcohol that caused severe damage to motor nerves, leading to muscle pain and a distinct, high stepping “Jake walk.” Roughly 30,000 to 50,000 people died in the southern and midwestern U.S. (National Geographic HISTORY). This was a few years before I was born, but I remember seeing people with the “Jake Walk.”
Up Grade on 2nd. Electrocuted Victim, Denny McGuff: He has had had left arm amputated between shoulder and elbow. Right arm amputated in lower forearm, so far 8 surgeries in 9 days. The rope broke and the bucket jerked him into a live wire. The road ahead will be long and difficult, but his family is holding tightly to faith and believing he will come through this. They are begging for continued prayers.
Asian Love Bug: Bad News. They will not leave until springtime. If you have them in your house, check windows, doors and outside screens — use a vacuum cleaner (hand held preferred) to clean them out. They leave tiny black dots on floors that will soon be little bugs. I found a “sticky card” close to outside doors helps. WD 40 sprayed outside door works good. (Sticky cards can be found in area of fly spray.)

Rejoice always — pray continually — give thanks in all circumstances. (Thessalonians’s 5 - 16-18)
