Southern Pine Electric has announced the opening of the first-ever grant application period for its Members Helping Members program starting February 1. Launched in October 2024, this innovative initiative empowers Southern Pine members to round up their electric bills, with the extra cents funding grants that directly benefit local organizations making a difference in their communities.
Southern Pine invites eligible organizations, including 501(c)(3) nonprofits, first responders, and educators, to apply for these grants. The funds aim to support initiatives such as providing food to those in need, enhancing educational programs for children, assisting seniors and families, equipping first responders with critical tools, and much more.
Who Can Apply?
Organizations located within Southern Pine Electric’s 11-county service area are encouraged to apply. This includes: Copiah, Covington, Forrest, Jasper, Jefferson Davis, Lawrence, Newton, Rankin, Scott, Simpson, and Smith counties.
Eligible applicants include nonprofits, community-based or volunteer organizations, educational and civic groups, first responders, law enforcement agencies, and shelters that qualify as tax-exempt under 501(c)(3).
How to Apply
Applications will be available exclusively online during the months of February and August each year. Visit www.southernpine.coop/MHM to access the application link, managed by the Pinebelt Foundation. The Pinebelt Foundation will verify all submitted applications and make award recommendations, which will then be reviewed by Southern Pine’s Advisory Committee. This committee, comprised of one representative from each of the 11 counties Southern Pine serves, will ensure that funds are used for the greater good of our communities. The award announcements will be made in May 2025.
Important Note: Applications will not be accepted via mail, FedEx, USPS, or in-person at Southern Pine Electric or Pinebelt Foundation locations.
The Members Helping Members program demonstrates the power of community. Through small monthly contributions, Southern Pine members are helping to create meaningful change — supporting friends, neighbors, and organizations when they need it most.
“We believe that by working together, we can transform lives and uplift the communities we call home,” said Darnell Moffett, director of community development.
