A beautiful Homegoing Celebration was held for Mother Alma Faye Hoye Ewing, former Forest Police Department Dispatcher, Saturday, June 10th at First Baptist Church in Carthage. Mrs. Ewing was a long-time employee of W. F. Mapp Funeral Home. Rev. Marcus Mann officiated and delivered her eulogy. Ms. Francis Harris was the mistress of service and other program participants were Revs. Perry Fletcher, Rochelle Wright and Sheldon Thomas, Ms. M. Lindsey, and Mrs. Devita Fletcher. Please keep her family in your prayers especially her children Sarah Hoye (Joseph) Jackson, Ricky (Sharon) Hoye, and Micheal O. (Luvetrius) Hoye. Mapp Funeral Home was entrusted with her final arrangements.
Mr. Curtis Lewis, Jr.’s Life was Celebrated June 10th at Midway M. B. Church with Pastor Wesley Griffen officiating. The program guide was Ms. Kathy Beamon Johnson, and other program participants were Bishop Oddie Atkins, Minister Jerome Odom, Ms. Brittney Parrott, Ms. Barbara Shepherd, and Pastor Billy Lyles who delivered Mr. Lewis’s eulogy. Mr. Lewis attended North Scott and graduated from Scott Central. He was a refrigeration manager and school bus driver for many years. Guests attending the Surprise Birthday Dinner for Mrs. Janet Nicks Williams were concerned when the guest of honor was late, and sighs of relief were heard when she entered the Little Rock M. B. Church Fellowship Hall on Saturday, June 10th. It was a beautiful event, and the Hall was beautifully decorated, the food was delectable, and the fellowship was “Janet-style” and filled with smiles and laughter. We were pleased to learn that Mrs. Patty Ward Odom attended the Annual Session of the East MS Baptist State Congress of Christian Education held in Laurel at Friendship Baptist Church. The purpose was to provide powerful methods, strategies, and information that will equip us to be proficient in sharing the Good News of the Gospel during these challenging times. According to Mrs. Odom, the classes were very relevant to today’s challenges and how to address them based on Christian Education. We look forward to having her share her notes.
Sister Eileen Hauswald recently returned from a Women’s Formation Training Retreat in Iowa. We are eager to hear of her adventures and experiences. The experiences will surely benefit the Morton and Scott County residents who receive Morton Community Center, f/k/a Excel Community Center services. Welcome back Sister.
