Call it close, close for the Rebels anyway, but a win is a win and Scott Central continued their winning ways last Friday night after a weather delay, and in sloppy conditions, coming from behind to beat Newton County 16-7 at home. The Rebels, now 3-0 on the season, scored two unanswered touchdowns with two point conversions both times to recover from a 7-0 deficit at the beginning of the third quarter and held on for the victory.
Next up the undefeated Rebels, in their quest to repeat as 2A State Champions, travel to Bay Springs Friday night where they hope to improve to 4-0 against the Bulldogs. The Dogs are 2-1 on the season having clobbered Heidelberg 52-6 last week.
In Sebastopol the Bobcats also hold a perfect 3-0 record this year after defeating Pisgah 22-6 last Friday night during their annual Military and First Responder Appreciation game at home in The Pool. The Bobcats travel to Clarkdale this week where they also hope to continue their winning ways against a different Bulldog team, also 3-0, coming off a 45-6 win over Leake County last week.
The Morton Panthers claimed their first victory of the young season last Friday night when they traveled to Pearl to take on the Pirates. In a squeaker, the Panthers topped the Pirates 35-28 in overtime.
This week is Homecoming in Morton and the Panthers look to even their 1-2 season record against the Independence Wildcats. The Cats also 1-2 on the season are coming off a 30-20 loss to Senatobia last week.
The Lake Hornets also claimed their first win of the season with a big 36-9 victory over Pelahatchie. The Hornets, 1-2 on the season hope to improve that record Friday night at home against Choctaw Central. The Warriors, now 2-1, defeated Nanih Waiya 26-6 last Friday night.
And in Forest the Bearcats improved their season record to 2-1, after defeating Kemper County last week 32-22. The Cats hope to make it 3-1 this week when they travel to Northeast Lauderdale to take on the 2-1 Trojans who are coming off a 35-21 victory over Southeast Lauderdale last week.
Kick-off for all games is at 7:30 p.m. for the rest of September. Regular 7:00 p.m. kick-offs return in October.
