Funeral services for Mr. John Thomas Horn were held on Monday, October 23, 2023 at 12:30 pm at Newton County Funeral Home – South Chapel in Newton. Rev. William Savell officiated. Burial followed in the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery with military funeral honors provided by the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard.
Mr. Horn, age 83 and a resident of Newton, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at the V.A. Nursing Home in Jackson. He was a native of Scott County and a graduate of Harperville High School. John Thomas Horn was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Army. He was a Christian by faith and a member of the Masonic Order, and a past member of the Newton Rotary Club. Mr. Horn formerly served the people of Newton County as an election commissioner. He will be remembered for his “jokester personality” and having a good time with others, enjoying sports of all types, and held loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed cooking and was an avid outdoorsman. Mr. Horn was a hard worker, serving clients in sales with Horn Sales and Service, and The Country Peddler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben Sedric and Lizzie May Mahaffey Horn and seven siblings.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Tonya Kirby Horn of Newton; one son, Hans Horn (Karen) of Flora; two daughters, Angie Accardo (Ricky) of Flowood and Diane Hobbs (Bill) of Orlando, FL; seven grandchildren, Chandler Williams, Layton Horn, Lindsey Fyke (Todd), Vance Accardo, Alex Thompson, William Hobbs and Jarrod Hobbs; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Edwina Jones (Gary) of Forest; two step-daughters, Stephanie Addkison of Ellisville and Kim Jones (John) of Hickory; one step-son, Matt Addkison (Shelley) of Hickory; four step-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Irvin Horn, Brian Horn, Layton Horn, Mark Horn, Chandler Williams, Shaun Horn, and Ricky Accardo.
Visitation was Monday two hours prior to the services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 120 Scarbrough St., Suite C, Richland, MS 39218.
