Sybil Hughlene (Thrash) Sistrunk went to her heavenly home on March 10, 2023 at the age of 99 years and 8 months.
Sybil was born to Luther and Bertha (Brown) Thrash on June 29, 1923 in the Neville Community of Newton County, Mississippi. She was reborn through Jesus Christ in November 2001. She is a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church.
Having grown up in rural Mississippi meant working on a farm. Chores included hoeing, picking cotton and growing and canning vegetables and fruits. She also milked cows to provide milk and butter for the family. Being the oldest girl in a family of eight also meant a lot of childcare for her younger siblings.
On July 4, 1942, she married Norman Sistrunk (son of Leonard and Florence Sistrunk) of the Rocky Hill Community in Neshoba County. They had two children: Canoy and Carlene. During her adult life they mostly lived in Sebastopol.
While Norman was in the Army during WWII she returned back home with her parents. During this time she started her career in the garment industry at Harper Industries in Union. She later worked in Newton and Sebastopol ending her career in the late eighties after having returned to Union. Many special friends and acquaintances were made during this period.
After retirement, she spent time traveling with the Golden Advantage Club of Community Bank in Forest. During this time she came to have a whole new set of friends. She was able to visit lots of places throughout the United States including Hawaii. She also sailed several cruises that were of great enjoyment to her. She continued to drive to Mobile, AL and the Mississippi Gulf Coast to visit family. At home, she was always busy crafting and crocheting.
Her favorite pastime was spending time with her granddaughter Lea Anne. They continued their outings until she went to reside at J. G. Alexander Nursing Center at age 96. They enjoyed spending time together and went wherever the road called them. She was always waiting on a phone call and had her shoes ready.
She is survived by her daughter: Carlene Anthony, son-in-law: Tommy Anthony, and granddaughter: Lea Anne Anthony all of Sebastopol. She is also survived by a sister: Sennie Mallette of Vancleave, MS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Norman (1998) and her son Canoy (1969). George, Randolph, Charles, Donald, Johnnie Faye and Joyce were siblings that preceded her in death.
Pallbearers: Tommy Anthony, Mike Anderson, Barry Thrash, Larry Morrow, Jack Green, and Max Lang
