East Central Community College to occupy
a portion of the long-empty builing
John Parker and Scott McCarver removed the old plexiglass from the Thomas Great M Store last month and installed new windows on the front of the long-empty building.
The city acquired the lease to the property in September of 2015 from the Forest Municipal School District after the previous lease holder defaulted.
The city has divided up the large interior into two potential storefronts with the north section of the building nearing completion for individualized offices which may be filled by East Central Community College this fall to use for three classrooms for career advancement and GED courses. The south side of the building will be restored next and an entrance will be installed in the front to permit a second business to operate out of it.
If ECCC elects to fill the building, restoration efforts will then move to the building front and toward installing a sign and any other necessities requested by the college.
