Judgement
Something important in our life is knowing how to judge, even more so if we are Christians and we make judgments that implicate the society in which we live. We live working, or doing any activity among many people, some of whom become our friends, or we share common things. In all cases there must be mutual respect and love. “Beloved, let us love one another for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God..” I John 4:7 ESV
We all want to be known and accepted, but we must be very careful and always remembering that Jesus teaches us not to judge. “Judge not, and you will be not judged;” Luke 6:37a ESV
We should not blame others because we ourselves need security, let us not give in to the common obsession of classifying everything according to our ideas. We often make mistakes when we judge because we have not looked closely at reality. Our mistakes should be taken as an experience that teaches us not to commit them again, stimulating us to do good. There are wide and very easy paths to follow when they are the ones that people follow to do evil, but this leads to destruction.
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” Matthew 7:13-14 ESV
Behind every judgment we make there will be a decision or a sentence that may necessarily be good or bad for others. When that decision is bad and affects others, it is common to wash your hands in the same way that Pilate did. It is the way to avoid any responsibility for what was said or done without changing the reality against which a judgment was made. As Christians we cannot be innocent bystanders and it is necessary to bear witness with the truth in our hands.
We believe and follow Jesus and in Him is the criterion of all truth. He is the king and we as disciples believe in his truth and not ours. When we judge we enter the field that belongs to the Master and is not ours. Our attitude towards any reality must be silent and our judgment must be based on irrefutable reality. Of course this is very difficult to do, but we must learn to know how to control ourselves and thus show that Jesus is the best for our human condition by bearing witness to it.
In contemporary society many judge God, but in the Gospel God does not judge, so we should not judge either, but only be obedient to what the Divine Master wants.
May God bless you.
