Repentance
We all make mistakes and sin in our lives. Many times we do it consciously or not, but often we regret it or we should. If we are Christians, repenting is very important because it is incomprehensible that a believer does not repent of any sin because this is part of our faith. “Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.” Luke 15;7 ESV
By repentance we give glory to God whom we have offended, by faith we give glory to Jesus Christ our Redeemer who came to save us from our sins. Christ has united faith with repentance and none of us can even think of separating them.
One of the most frequent problems that the Church faces today is the abandonment that some make of the love for Christ, and the love that we should have for each other and others. It is not a new problem since the world always attracts, and even more so the current one with many media and growing development that pressures people to consume. A kind of voracity is created in some to possess more and more, leaving the heart empty.
“To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: “The words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands. I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name’s sake, and you have not grown weary. But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.” Revelation 2:1-5 ESV
When the believer loses the fervor he had at the beginning, he shows a tendency or is subject to a consumerist and materialist society, where he is very concerned about social crises and where political ambitions are generated. A lifestyle change is needed. As Christians we belong to the universal Church and we should not be negligent with the gospel, nor should we ever forget the love that Christ has for us. Let us think that the Lord may be dissatisfied with us if He notices that our loyalty to Him has cooled and we are very lazy with the church.
There is always time for repentance. The Christian life is an eternal war against sin, against Satan, the world and the flesh. Repentance calls us not to give in to our spiritual enemies, since with Christ we will always have a glorious future.
May God bless you.
