Abomination
The meaning of this word is linked to the description of facts, objects or images that are detestable to God. There are many things that exist in the world that are abominable to the Lord, and perhaps the most widespread and common is the love of money in itself. Jesus on one occasion when teaching the disciples referred to the Pharisees as an example. “The Pharisees who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him. And he said to them, ‘You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.’” Luke 14-15 ESV
Jesus taught us that the rich man who only provides for himself and does not share his wealth with those most in need is committing sin because the love of money is the root of all evil. “To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and believing, nothing is pure; but both their minds and their consciences are defiled. They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.” Titus 1: 15-16 ESV
If we serve God we must be very careful and not fall into what Jesus calls the abomination of desolation, remembering just as Daniel did, when he prophesied the desecration of the temple by Antiochus Epiphanes in the year 168 BC.
If we analyze our era we see how this has been happening and many things happen that are desolating in which our Lord is not present or considered. It is abominable that there are nations that only give importance to economic success, to the wealth that enables military power with which many impose their ideologies. Others direct their activities to provide worldly pleasures that distract the population, leaving aside the importance of honoring and worshiping the Lord in our lives as believers.
The world often raises idols that represent political leaders. Generally they are people with a distorted and abominable self-esteem, who love to communicate falsehoods to gain power or be elected. They always desire to be the object of idolatry and adoration. However, we know that God asks his people to only worship Him and not to place anything or anyone above Him. An example of this can be found in the book of Acts when in an incident that occurred on a missionary trip by Saul and Barnabas they found a magician who opposed them by trying to divert the proconsul’s faith; “But Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him and said, ‘You son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all the deceit and villainy, will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord? And now, behold the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the son for a time.’ Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking people to lead him by the hand.” Acts 13: 9-11 ESV
Satan is only concerned, especially with great men who have the power to prevent his people from being believers, because their example will influence many, and they will fall into abomination.
May God bless you.
