Obedience
For anyone who understands that obedience means submission to authority, laws and regulations, there would be no problems of coexistence in society or with others, however we know that there are many disobedient people. However, for a Christian it should be simple to satisfy the demands of something and/or someone who is above us. Children must obey their parents; workers obey their bosses and the rules that exist; Students should obey their teachers in order to learn the lessons they are taught; Drivers must obey traffic rules, etc.
In the spiritual field we must be obedient to what God bequeathed in his commandments. And we have the best example of Jesus Christ who emptied himself by taking the form of a servant, humiliating himself to the point of being crucified to obey His Father and thus our sins would be forgiven. We should always be prepared with a heart willing to always be obedient to God, and not provoke divine punishment. It is a tough battle but always possible to be achieved successfully due to obedience. “But thanks be to God, that you were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.” Romans 6:17-18 ESV
Our obedience to what is in the gospel should be evident in our daily lives. There is no other way to become a new creature as expressed by Jesus to Nicodemus: “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” John 3:6 ESV
Our obedience should not only be to authority, but also in the love we profess for God, for others and for ourselves. That love must be put into action and expressed throughout our lives, whether in our work and/or personal relationships, as well as in fulfilling our obligations before the law.
God’s commandments were made known so that they could be obeyed and thus give men the possibility of living according to what the creator desires for them. Jesus says to his disciples: “Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him” John 14:21 ESV
Our Christianity does not consist of conceptual knowledge of Christ, nor mere assent, but basically it is our obedience to Him through our faith in Him.
May God bless you.
