The Light
Something very important in the universe created by God is the physical phenomenon we call light. Scientifically, it is electromagnetic radiation with fluctuations in electric and magnetic fields present in the nature of the universe. For us, it is a profound, multifaceted symbol that represents the nature of God, truth, life, salvation, and spiritual guidance. “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5 ESV
God is eternal and essential to us because he finally manifested himself in human nature with Christ. They saw him in the time of the apostles, who had the experience of witnessing his wisdom, his miracles, his love, and mercy. In addition to suffering his crucifixion for the sinners who condemned him, they had the privilege of living and knowing of his resurrection from the dead. Although they didn’t believe Mary had been with him after he had risen, they ultimately had to accept his presence. “But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it. Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at a table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those whose saw him after he had risen.” Mark 16: 11 and 14 ESV
In reality, not believing in the resurrected Jesus Christ is like not believing in the Light. “In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:4-5 ESV
When the apostle John tells us that there is no darkness in God, it is because words cannot explain how wonderful and glorious the light is, piercing the darkness where we can see nothing. Light is God’s revelation of Himself, which can be seen above all things, and it is impossible to find darkness around Him because nothing is hidden in Him. God desires to be seen and known by all humanity. Purity and holiness reside in God’s light; everything is clear and accessible to our sight, and it also shows us a safe path to walk.
Darkness, on the other hand, reveals nothing; there is no light in it, and if we want to walk in the darkness, we will surely stumble upon obstacles, fall, and not achieve any goal that means anything good for us. Darkness means something totally opposite to the Christian life that is illuminated by God. Walking in the world is walking on a poorly lit path, deceived and believing that you are going in the right direction. We must be very careful because God warns us. “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them, for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:6-10 ESV
Those of us who trust in Him also become children of light who walk in the light.
May God bless you.
