It’s Mine!
There is a natural tendency in children to be selfish with their toys. If another child asks to play with one, the answer will be no! It’s mine! In adults we can find a similar behavior, particularly when they have become newly rich. When they are not believers there is a cause, but when a Christian become selfish it means something is wrong in their hearts. Generosity is a distinctive characteristic of those who love God. If there’s no presence of giving and love in our life it will have consequences. “Give and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38 (ESV)
When somebody accepts Jesus Christ as the only Savior, they need to put their whole lives in His hands and then they could say that they have been spiritually born again. This means that God has entered into our hearts and the Holy Spirit will dwell in us. We change and what was instinctive in us God will change thanks to His grace and love. Those changes will start to happen with time, slow but secure.
“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31 (ESV)
When we don’t accomplish these commandments we can’t enjoy God’s Kingdom. Remember that we live in a materialistic society where success is measured many times by money and we should agree that money is not the most important thing in our lives. God wants us to live according to the new spirit received because Christians are different.
Love can be shown in many ways including generosity, humility, piety and serving the needy. This Christian love has a social impact because society could become generous and loving as Jesus was. Selfishness will give room to the joy of giving, helping and loving.
On our road with Him, it is basic to be obedient and become just and merciful people. “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what the Lord requires of you but to do justice, and love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8 (ESV)
Society will be better with Love, the same love that God taught us through Jesus’ life, with justice, humility and generosity. Everything belongs to God so we should not say, it is mine!
May God bless you.
