Victim Mentality
How we think is not only important for the individual’s life, it is also important for the nation. Some nations have been successful, not because of the extension of their territory, and not for their natural resources either. It is because of the spiritual strength of their people. When a nation has grown with Christian values those values are reflected in the society and it means that they live and act according to God’s will. An important part of society is the political system that rules it. In a democracy, the governments are elected by different systems but the essential issue is that the people have a right to vote and elect.
We need to be careful and not have a victim mentality when we choose in any election. Politicians attack each other and create the environment that we are all victims of the other party, and in fact we are not. We are living in an interconnected globe so a victim mentality can lead us to be isolated and not consider the others in our community. “For the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but not think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.” (Romans 12:3 ESV) We should not misinterpret what it means to “carry the cross” because it means that Jesus is not understood.
Many people feel victims of their bosses or their spouses etc. In fact, this feeling does not help to resolve the problem. The opposite can occur. Problems can worsen if you have idealized time past when the problem didn’t exist. In recent years in this country there have been many deaths caused by extremist individuals and that show ignorance and disobedience to God. The digital era changed all personal communications and we need to be careful with our Christian values and to not push away the physical element of sharing as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Jesus Christ was crucified because He confronted the Jews by preaching another image of God. Jesus’ love did not show others a victim mentality. Because His love was so great, He was able to give His life with a winner mentality. “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.” said Jesus to the disciples after His resurrection. He knew that He would have victory accomplishing what His Father commanded.
To hold to the cross doesn’t mean to be afraid or to feel ourselves victims because we all need to assume our responsibilities and not stay in the victim role. Do not complain about things. Confront evil with God on our side because He will never abandon us. “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20b ESV)
The way to feed our minds has the same importance, and more so, as to foods we eat for our body. “The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly.” When we listen to disturbing news we should not be influenced with that news because it doesn’t fit Christian values. Don’t be trapped by those who don’t have a right attitude and who try to detour our sight to doubtful goals.
May God bless you.
