The War
Wars stem from the decisions of certain national leaders who disagree with what is happening — and/or what another nation is doing — in a way that causes them grave harm. Generally, decisions are studied and analyzed in Congress, and it is the parliamentarians —together with the Executive Branch — who ultimately decide to declare war on a country considered an enemy. In our current situation, the president decided unilaterally, without consulting Congress, to attack Iran.
From a Christian spiritual perspective, this war entails a spiritual laxity in which Christ is absolutely absent from the decision made. “What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel.” James 4:1-2a-b ESV
James tells us that war is the natural consequence of the presence of sin in the world, and of the greed of men and nations for what belongs to others. Wars persist, and today there is a blatant display of the perfection of weapons created as instruments of death and destruction. This signifies that humanity has not changed throughout history, and that this will bring about severe judgments when the Lord comes to establish His Kingdom.
Sinful desires and affections hinder prayer and the work of our desires toward God. Let us be on our guard, lest we abuse — or make ill use of — our hearts’ dispositions.
When people ask God for prosperity, they often do so with ulterior motives and intentions. Moreover, in our own case, a heightened ego centrism is being displayed in public statements. The man who sets his heart on his love for the mundane demonstrates that he regards and loves the world without aligning himself with what God desires of us. In other words, he has positioned himself as an enemy of God.
He forgets that God teaches us to be always ready to do good to all those around us, insofar as we are able, and that justice and love should reign in our words.
“Therefore take up the armor of God, that you maybe able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.” Ephesians 6: 13-25 ESV
May God bless you.
