Respect for Creation
Both in the government and in other sectors of society there are those who reject the environment and respect for creation. They do not meditate that nature is Creation of God. I understand that it is difficult to understand the complexity of how God created life and this wonderful universe, but personally, it is harder for me to understand how people, who are believers, ignore the damage that human beings have done and continue to do to the environment. They ignore that everything has had, has and will have consequences that are sometimes irreversible to the planet Earth.
Creation is the heritage of humanity and a source of life for all of us who inhabit this planet, regardless of the geographical location. All boundaries between countries have not been ruled by God, but they are the product of ambitious political powers and wars throughout history. God assigned us as home this planet that we call Earth and, therefore, it is our responsibility to take care of it. God created everything we see and experience, and when He created man, He gave man the fundamental mission of honoring Him. So in the same way that we honor our Heavenly Father, we must honor and love all that He created.
In a hasty and superficial way, there are those who forget or ignore that the environment has a deep meaning both philosophically and theologically. We must venerate Creation as the supreme work of God in which we believe and adore. “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work, that he had done in creation.” Genesis 2:1-3 ESV.
We must take care of Creation starting with the smallest things that we produce, consume and enjoy with love in our daily life. “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31 ESV “Praised be You, my Lord, through our Sister Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us, and who produces various fruit with colored flowers and herbs.” (From The Canticle of the Creatures of St. Francis of Assisi)
Technological leaps, geopolitical shocks, climate change, and global warming are a real problem. All this and other things are facts that give us the opportunity to face and reflect according to our Christian principles. It is the only way we move all generations towards an integral development. The isolation goes in the opposite direction to what God wants from men. We should go towards a future considering an interdependence of all nations globally. “Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise of God, that I, the fruits of lips that acknowledge his name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” Hebrews13:15-16 ESV
The rich and powerful often forget what pleases God. And what humanity also forgets or does not recognize is that we all travel together in this solitary planet to which God destined us to live. We should take care of it.
May God bless you.
