Our Spiritual Age
Our external appearance does not necessarily reflect our spiritual age. Although our body is naturally deteriorating after a certain age, the Spirit that dwells within each one sometimes goes in the opposite way. It is in this point where our faith has an important role. When we believe in Jesus Christ and become faithful to Him, the Holy Spirit causes us to become born again and brings new life to our spirits. “So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16 (ESV) So when we center our attention on what is invisible and eternal, our inner self starts growing and our actions will give testimony to God’s presence in our hearts. To be born again is real because: “That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” John 3:6 (ESV)
When we compare today’s life with all the past generations we see a fast and agitated way of living. It is obvious that today’s rhythm is faster because advanced technology’s pressure over all generations. Many try to do things the quickest way without much effort and the enemy of God is taking advantage of the situation; when we are living in a hurry, without peace, without patience and no joy without God. Many people waste their time in unproductive things and lose precious time omitting divine instructions. They forget that we are called to serve God in all activities we have day by day. If we fall into bad habits and addictions it means that we are not giving essential time to prayer and communion with God. It means that you are walking away from God and, when you start a decadent spiritual period that will come as a result of not spending time with God, you will not be able to be healed so easily. Your external physical appearance can’t be taken back to what it once was, though sometimes a surgery will appear to delay the process, the spirit is different. It is different because the Lord is merciful and powerful and can give a new spirit and a new life. Glory to God!
As a matter of fact, as we take care of our bodies if we want good health, we need to take care of our spirits by putting them in Jesus’ hands and He will send the Holy Spirit who will lead us in the right way. To be spiritually born again doesn’t require a certain age, and this is important because we receive at the same time enough strength to see us through hardships. Adults should have the advantage to be firm in our beliefs more so than the younger people because we have the experience of Satan’s temptations. Unfortunately, this is not true for many.
We should know that the more we know and love Jesus Christ the more successful we will be in our spiritual lives. A true Christian lives in peace and harmony with love. Faith that does not translate into love is just ideology. It is the only way to be prepared for the moment we are departing from this world and arriving into God’s Kingdom where Jesus has a place for us, where we will live forever with Him.
May God bless you.
