Marty Cox and Khaleb Shepherd
Dewayne “Marty” Cox is the son of Dewayne S. and Annette Cox. His grandparents are Jerry and Mandy McBeath and Jimmy Dale. Willie M. and Pecolia Cox. Great Grandparents True Love and R. J. Lewis. Julie Hornsby and Jeff Bell.
He attended Scott Central Attendance Center and received his High School Diploma. He is currently enrolled at East Central Community College majoring in business. His future educational plans are to attend Delta State University majoring in Audio Engineering/Aeronautics and plans to get his pilot’s license through their program.
While in middle school he created a video game and advanced to regional competition in Laurel, MS. In high school he was a member of the first Robotics Team for Scott County Schools. The team was sponsored by Raetheon and other organizations. Their task was to build an operational robot from scratch. In the first year team “Poultronix” won Rookie Team of the Year and advanced to regional competition in Texas.
He is a talented musician and singer and will be participating in the stage play production of Shrek the Musical in April as apart of the Theater Department at East Central Community College.
He is a member of Midway MB Church Choir.
Khaleb Shepard is the birth son of Ryan Shepard and Alma Kazic. His paternal grandparents are Delie Shepard and Percy Shepard. His paternal great grandparents are Lottie Stowers and Elisha Stowers. His paternal great grandparent are, Delie Odom McClendon and Mal McClendon. His maternal grandparents are Dejomic and Bessica Kazic.
Khaleb attended Scott Central Attendance Center and Abeka Academy. He received his GED through Workforce in Forest at the age of 16. He took his GED Test at East Central Community College. He averaged a 19 out of 20 on his GED. He is presently enrolled at East Central Community College as a freshman majoring in electrical engineering. He took the Accuplacer test and ranked very high and was admitted to English and Math 101. His game plan is to join the marines.
Midway M. B. Church will celebrate its First Black Historical Banquet on February 22, at 6:00 pm. There are many far and near who have been contacted to be a part of this historical program. If you or your ancestors were born in Midway, married someone from Midway or work for the good of Midway please attend this Banquet. Did you know: Midway lost a young man who died from complications of a broken leg. This young man left the community going to school on a football scholarship at 16 years of age. Besides football he could play a piano and a trombone.
This weekend has been a hard to endure weekend for a given family. Since the person is a minor I will not print any names. I talked to his grandfather on several occasions. The family was very distraught during this child missing time. The child was returned to the loving arms of his parents on Sunday evening doing well.
Rev. Tevin Nickols was installed as the pastor of Cedar Grove M. B. Church on last Sunday. Rev. Westley the pastor of Midway M B Church preached the installation sermon. Midway Baptist Church Family did a wonderful job of being there to support him on this next step in his endeavors.
Lone Pilgrim District will host a one night revival at Midway M. B. Church on Wednesday night. Rev. Westley Griffin will deliver the message. Thursday Night Revival will be at Truelight M. B. Church in Walnut Grove.
Sympathy to the Patrick family in the passing of Judice Patrick. Her service was last Saturday at a graveside funeral in Lovelady Cemetery. Mapp Funeral Home was entrusted with her arrangements.

Sympathy to the Shepherd family in the passing of Willkie Shepherd Jr. His final visitation was at Mapp Funeral Home Chapel on last Saturday. Mapp Funeral Home was entrusted with her arrangements.
