Manorris Odom was recognized at Union Grove United Methodist Church, in Steele Town on last Sunday. There were many good words said and was recognized for his impactable dress as well as his teaching skills in the choir and as well as any class room he enters.
Reserve the date: Vacation Bible School will be held at Midway M.B. Church, May 27-29 at 5:45 pm. Teachers are supposed to be there at 5:45 pm and Vacation Bible School starts at 6:00 pm. Printed registration forms are available at the church and online on the church Facebook page.
On May 31, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Midway M. B. Church Fellowship Hall there was scheduled a banquet honoring those who have worked for HeadStart or a member of their family who had worked for HeadStart. “The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray.” That my friends have happend in Midway. There will be two funerals this weekend affecting Midway. One a member of the church, Verneda McClendon and one of the community, Elder Arther Kennedy, the pastor of Agape Faith Full Gospel Christian Fellowship Inc. Sympathy to the McClendon Family in the passing of Verneda “Ollie” McClendon. Her service is Saturday at Midway M. B. Church at 1:00 pm. Final viewing is before service begins. She will lie in state at the church from 12:00 noon-1:00 pm. Mapp Funeral Home is entrusted with her arrangements.
She leaves to cherish her memories: six brothers, Lonnie “Sambo” McClendon (Sandra Fay), W. C. “Man” McClendon, Jr. (Constance), Archie “Bubba” McClendon of Dallas, Bobbie Ray McClendon (Theresa), Elvert Earl McClendon (Shelia), and Lee Charles McClendon (Donna); one sister, Linda Ann McClendon Loper (Robert); a host of nieces and nephews and one great niece.
Preceding her in death: her parents, Louise White McClendon, and W. C. McClendon, Sr. one sister Ruth McClendon Singleton (Kenny) and one brother Robert Earl McClendon.
Sympathy to the Kennedy Family in the passing of Elder Arther Kennedy. His service will be Sunday. He will lie in state for final viewing at Agape Faith Full Gospel Christian Fellowship Inc. Church, 5972 Highway 35 North, Forest, Mississippi 39074, from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon. Service will start at 12:30 pm. Mapp Funeral Home is entrusted with his arrangements.
Leaving to cherish his memories are: his wife, Terry L. Kennedy; five daughters, Bernadette Kennedy, Vernette Kennedy Dubose, Tamika Kennedy Anderson, Tawaina Kennedy, and Asheeda Kennedy Henderson; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Irish Kennedy Smothers (Harvey); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Sympathy to the Lyles and Shepherd families in the passing of Willie Maude Lyles Shepherd. Her service will be Saturday at Balucta M. B. Church. Initial Viewing will be Friday at Holifield Funeral Home. Family hour is 5:00-6:00 Friday. Body will lie in state Saturday at the church starting at 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Holifield Funeral Home is entrusted with her arrangements.
Leaving to cherish Maude’s memories: her husband, Glen Shepard; one son. Preston “Bird” Shepherd; one sister, Helen Lyles Ward, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The late Percy Shepard lost one of his son-in-laws, Simuel Thomas and his service will be Saturday in Houston, Texas. Simuel leaves a wife, Clara Thomas; and two sons, Dior Thomas and Dejohn Thomas other relatives and friends.

East Mississippi State Convention will be held on June 6, 2025 starting at 5:00 pm and June 7, 2025 starting at 8:00 am in Meridian, Mississippi.
Lone Pilgrim District Congress of Christian Education will start June 9, 2025 – June 12, 2025 at 5:00 pm each night. It will be held at Bethlehem M. B. Church with its Lena, MS address. There will be a different speaker each night in the youth department. The speakers are: Ms. Kimberly Kincaid of Morton; Rev. Marcus Mann of Carthage; Mr. Milo Perry of Buffalo, New York and Mr. Robert Young of Arlington, Texas, Mr. Darrin Gray of Forest.
Ms. Kimberly Kincaid from Morton” How to fight diabetes while you can,” Rev. Marcus Mann graduated from Carthage High School then to Mississippi Valley State University. He was drafted by the Golden State Warriors. Retired after an injury. He is the Chaplain at Tyson Foods and the pastor of First Baptist Church in Carthage.
Milo Perry a graduate of Scott Central Attendance Center, Jackson State University and a six-year career from 1994 until 1999 with the Buffalo Bills. He was a third-round draft pick.
Robert Young is a graduate of Carthage High School and Mississippi State University. He played for the Los Angeles Rams, and Houston Oilers. Mr. Darrin Gray the retired principal of Scott County Alternative School.
