District Banquet held
Midway M. B. Church Christmas program will be December 24, 2023 during worship service. The program chairman is Pam Banks. The Youth Ministry will not meet on Saturday, December 16, 2023. They will meet again beginning Saturday, January 6, 2024.
The Lone Pilgrim District Laymen Service will be held at Saint Paul M. B, Church at 4:00 pm on the Fifth Sunday, December 31, 2023. Pastor Wesley Griffin will be the guest speaker. The church address is 13111 Road 404, Philadelphia, MS. Pastor Griffin is asking all of his members to please attend. The president of the Laymen Ministry is Deacon Larry Weathers of Providence M., B. Church and the Secretary of the Laymen is Tom Wilson of Midway M. B. Church.
The Lone Pilgrim District Banquet was held on December 9, 2023 at Truelight Center in Walnut Grove. Rev. William “Bill” Flowers, pastor of New Friendship M. B. Church was the Program Guide. Rev. Wesley Griffin, pastor of Midway M. B. Church did the opening prayer. Rev. Eric Jones, pastor of Bethlehem M. B. Church rendered scriptures for the occasion, Nu Vision sang several selections throughout the program. Deascon Alex and Sister Stephanie did the welcome and occasion. Door Prizes were announced by Sister Cassander Flanagan and Sister Liz Ferrell. The food was blessed by Rev. Jarvis Rush, pastor of Lone Pilgrim M. B. Church. The speaker was introduced buy the Predident of Long Pilgrim District Congress and Pastor of Truelight M. B. Church Dr. Rev. Larry Weathers. The guest speaker was Dr. Joe Nelson, Supertendent of Education for Leake County Schools. Awards were given out by Dr. Bonnie B. Gardner.
Remarks were made by Rev. Ecclesiastic Johnson, President of East Mississippi District Association and Mr. Kenji Holloway, Mississippi House of Representative of District 27. Closing Remarks were made by Mrs. Betty Morgan. The Benediction was given by Dr. Rev. Johnny Barnes the Moderator of the Lone Pilgrim District and pastor of Providence M. B. Church.
The 60th Century Family reunion will be held June 21-23, 2024 in Memphis, Tennessee next year. All information can be gotten from Memphiscfr.com. Bronson, III and Paul Bronson; his favorite niece that he called Moon, better known as Stephanie McDonald.
Sympathy to the Hayes Family in the passing of Essie Lue Hayes Spivey Lay. Her service was last Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Mapp Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in New Mt. Calvary Church Cemetery. Mapp Funeral Home was entrusted with his arrangements.
Essie leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, Louise (Ernest) Gilchrist, Pearl (Charles) Johnson, and Priscilla all of Chicago; sixty-nine grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; one sister, Queen of Jackson, MS; one brother-in-law Monroe Spivey; four nieces, Francis, Kitty, Delores and Ernestine. Special friends, Linda Hawkins, and Macy Loper. Three children, Dorothy, Ernest and Willie Jr. preceded her in death.
