Birthday Celebrations
Last Saturday, Midway M. B. Church visited the Civil Rights Museum in Jackson, MS. People drove individual cars and had lunch at their choice of restaurants. There were approximately 25 adults and children attending. We had a wonderful time and learned a lot about the history of Mississippians. We saw many others from local churches attending the event.
Midway M. B. Church Black History Program was held during regular Service. After service we had a Black Soul Food Luncheon. Nothing was commercialized. All food was homemade and delicious. Soul Food menu was, purple hull peas, pinto beans, lima beans, rutabagas, cabbage greens, chicken and dressing, chicken and dumplings, barbecue ribs, baked chicken, ham, barbecued turkey wings, pork neck bones, souse, corn on the cob, potato salad, salmon patties with rice, cornbread, pound cake, jelly cake, buttermilk pie, fried apple pies, sweet tea, and watermelon kool-aid, and lastly homemade vanilla ice cream.
Will everyone wish Leslie Ross “Rosco” a Happy Birthday on February 28th. I will let him tell his age. You can find him on Facebook.
Delie Shepard enjoyed a three-day long weekend celebrating her birthday with family. She spent Saturday at the Silver Star enjoying the Seafood Buffet with all the crab legs she could eat. That outing had Thomas and Dr. Locord Wilson, Leslie Ross, Ryan Shepard, Khaleb Shepard, Adam Shepard, Inny Shepard, Eric Ross and Shay. Lorraine was also there but had to leave early to accompany her grandson Daylen to a basketball game in Newton. Daylen’s team lost to Newton. Marty was there in spirit, he paid for my meal.
Sunday after church we went to Penn’s and had a wonderful lunch. Those in attendance were: Thomas and Dr. Locord Wilson, Leslie Ross, Ryan Shepard, Khaleb Shepard, Inny Shepard, Adam Shepard, Nathalie Shepard, Alexiah Shepard, Xhavier Shepard, Lunaya Shepard, Patty Odom, Dr. Lorraine Dozier, Violet Peavy, Eric Ross and Shay.
Monday which was my actual birthday we had dinner at the Mexican restaurant across from South Side. The food was good and hot. The crew had slimmed down to Ryan Shepard, Khaleb Shepard, Violet Peavy. Initially on Monday we were to go to Golden Coral, but old folks can get tired of traveling, local was fine.
