Announcements: The last few days of beautiful sunshine and increased warmth has been a pleasure. But, true winter weather and freezing temperatures will return. Be cautious and follow recommended plans to avoid damage to water pipes, gas meters, etc. Please do not use open door stove ovens for heat and always remove any flammable materials several feet away from any room heater (electric or gas). In the event of a power outage do not use generators in an enclosed area. Be safe.

To: Barb Calloway for her generosity in providing warm gloves for students riding her school bus. “One good deed deserves another.” So, inspired by this unexpected kindness, student Emma Miles presented Ms. Barb with a goodie gift basket for being very special to students and, take it from this writer…to everyone.
To: Ms. Cynthia Wicker, MHS English Language Learning Teacher for being honored as the MHS 2024-25 Teacher of the Year.

Sympathy to the families of: John Black, Lorene Smith, Barbara Louise Humphries Haralson, Viola Gencil Richardson, Wesley Coley, Ruby Catherine Aycock and Rev. John Banning and family in the tragic death of son (8th grade student).
Travelin’, visitin’ and such: Tito and Wilda Echiburu have been out of town visiting their son Titine and family since near the Thanksgiving Holidays. Unfortunately Wilda had a serious accident resulting in a fracture of her pelvis requiring lengthy treatment and rehabilitation throughout the following Christmas season. During her hospital confinement, the staff there made space available for the entire family to gather for a really nice Christmas Party. In speaking with Wilda, she reports a satisfactory recovery now staying with Titine and family.
Sittin’ and thinkin’: Following a most inspiring final tribute to former US President, Jimmy Carter, we will be watching with interest the Inauguration of US President, Donald Trump on January 20, 2025. This event will be held in Washington, D.C. (most presidential inaugurals have taken place there on the western side of the Capitol. Thomas Jefferson was the first president to take this oath at the Capitol in 1801. Before this, the oath had been taken in New York City and in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Each city was, at the time, the nation’s capital.
The most basic requirement of Inauguration Day is simple: The new president takes a 35-word oath. This is the only event required by the U.S. Constitution — the swearing-in of the new president. With a recitation of the Oath of Office, the president-elect becomes the president and commander-in-chief. God Bless our UNITED STATES OF AMERICA-LAND OF THE FREE AND HOME OF THE BRAVE.
