Hope you enjoyed the President’s Day holiday. For those still working, an extra day off is always a good thing. One interesting myth concerning George Washington…the report that his dentures were fashioned from wood…not correct, they were made of hippopotamus teeth that had been filed down to fit into his mouth.
The MSU/Scott County MHV Leader Training/County Council meeting will be held in the Scott County Extension Service facility on Tuesday, February 25 beginning at 1:30 p.m. The county Fashion Review is scheduled to be presented then. A big THANK YOU! goes out to the Men’s Club of Morton United Methodist for a memorable Valentine’s Banquet event. Approximately 125+ church family, friends and neighbors met in the beautifully decorated Fellowship Hall for a delicious meal catered by Glenda Sullivan, manager of the Ochsner’s Scott County Regional Hospital and her staff. Following dining/fellowship the guests filed into the sanctuary for an evening of inspiring entertainment. The Acapella Choir, under the direction of Chandler Smith presented a toe tapping concert ending with the entire ECCC Chorus inspiring attendees with patriotic and spiritual favorites. Various service organizations within the City of Morton, Scott County and the surrounding area were recognized by Jimmy Farris for their importance to our outreach community.

Prayers and concern for: Young Master Luke Beatty, a miracle child who will soon, along with his parents journey to Boston Children’s Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. This three week stay there will be extremely expensive for the family. Anyone wishing to assist with this burden can receive further information by calling the Morton UMC office at 601-732-6124, those impacted by the recent weather related losses (especially Clemmie McDonald whose family members were forced to evacuate their home in Kentucky due to flash flooding) and continued concern for Bobbie Hodges.
Sympathy to the families of: Hilda Mae Sharplin Myers, Betty Jean Wiggins Ward, Margaret Smith Johnson, Marty Davis Killen, Doris June Pennington, Shirley Ann Wiseman Chapman and Francisco Domingo Miguel.

Sandra Measells reports enjoying a fantastic trip to the Florida Storytelling Festival in Mt. Dora, Florida. A very appreciative audience gathered for her performance of “She Called him Mister, But she didn’t mean it” and was a lucky winner of a drawing for the Story Slam where she won Third Place for the story about “Making Fudge into Concrete” (I can relate to that, also peanut brittle).
