Congratulations to: Julie Latham named Educator of the Month by sponsor Ross Dental Clinic. She shared memories of her many honors as a graduate of MHS and her 34 total years of educating/inspiring students in her hometown classrooms. This reporter has her own pleasant memory of presenting the “Suitcase Museum” on Mississippi Native Indian Culture to her students. The setting in her classroom was somewhat of a museum with many interesting displays and information used to stimulate the imagination of her students. Of course, Julie was a never ending source of information concerning those items.
To: Morton Football Panther, Xavier McDonald on being selected to the Mississippi Dandy Dozen roster as a senior this season. Following a successful high school career Xavier has committed to play for Sacramento State University.

Travelin’, visitin’ and such: Little Miss Lilly Byrd of Atlanta, Georgia was spotted visiting her grandparents Rev. Chris and Rev. Shelia Cumbest recently. While here she charmed the Morton UMC family while visiting the informal church service held in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday, August 17.
Sittin’ and thinkin’: A quick trip to Fairway Foods to replenish our supply of peanut butter (a favorite snack/meal, both kinds) I discovered that a very valuable item was added to the household. According to “The Old Farmer’s Almanac” There are many tips on the use of peanut butter other than consumption for health. According to the National Peanut Board, Dr. George Washington Carver developed more than 300 uses for the humble peanut. They include face powder, shampoo, paper, shaving cream, hand lotion, insecticides, glue, charcoal, rubber, nitroglycerin, plastics and axle grease.
Listing some household uses for this precious food source: Use a thin coat as a substitute for shaving cream (Really! it hydrates and moisturizes), Polish leather and vinyl items using a bit of peanut butter on a cotton cloth. It buffs up wooden items, too. Hang pinecones stuffed with a mixture of peanut butter and cornmeal as a treat for winter birds. Smear it on garden tools, including wooden handles, as a winter preservative. Massage a bit of peanut butter into hair to remove a wad of chewing gum. Spread some on a slice of apple or a scrap of bread for a good mousetrap. Encourage your dog to swallow a pill by sticking it into the center of a little gob of peanut butter. Apply it to lawn mower blades as a lubricant.
