A word of appreciation goes out to Morton Public Library and Master gardener Vicky Nester for a presentation of a very interesting program on floral arrangement using mostly roadside vegetation. The group of attendees were treated to handouts, herbs and seeds for further study, planting and nurturing.

To: Oneida “Nita” Hollis Laster on being named Citizen of the Month, sponsored by Priority One. Nita is serving as an elected City of Morton Alderman for her seventh term. She greeted customers with a smile and provided any and all requests within her power to do so as a 30-year employee at the Fisherman’s Corner local business. Taking leadership roles in her Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where the Church Family honors her as “The Birthday Lady” due to her recognition of anyone that is having a recent birthday anniversary if she is aware of their birth date. The proud matriarch loving children-Andre, Rod, Syreeta, and Lorenzo Hollis Nita also embraces all neighbors and friends as family and we love her back.

Travelin’, visitin’ and such: members of the Scott County Forestry Association enjoyed a Field Day Outing on the property of Paul and Patricia Tadlock where they received a great deal of important information for successful management of their privately owned forest lands. The demonstration of the powerful mulching equipment used in clearing fire lanes and other needed assistance in maintaining property was of great interest to the group attending.
Reports are that Jimmie and Peggy Lewis, and Nikita and Jerrell Chambers were among the several thousand attending the “Cruisin the Coast” US Classic Car event. This annual event which was organized 29 years ago began with 374 registered entries expanding to 9,961 this year. Needless to say they were especially thrilled to be there.
