Congratulations to: Zach Holland on being named The Lauris G. Sessums First Responder of the Month. Serving in law enforcement for 15 years he has recently become a member of the Morton Police Department. His lovely family, wife Whitney and his children Kinley, Nolan and new daughter Hattie are proud of his long career in service to Scott County citizens. This honor is sponsored by the Sessum Wash House.
To: Kathy Warren on the celebration of her 88th Birthday Anniversary held in her home surrounded by all of her children, grands and great grands, several who were celebrating October birthdays also.
To: Shirley Roland Sawyer on the Celebration of her 83rd birthday Anniversary surrounded by family members, friends and “Wonder Woman” Tina Jolly who baked the delicious birthday cake and hosted the “Shirley Day” held at S.E. Lackey Convalescence Home. She was showered with many gifts and cards. A very special hand pieced and designed Christmas themed lap throw was presented by Florence Measells from her Morton MHV Club family. Many precious photos were taken of the occasion.
To: Those Scott County 4-H members who exhibited livestock in the Mississippi Great American Fair and decorating their stalls with appropriate designs in celebration of the 250th Birthday of America. Exhibitors won many Champion/Reserve Champion Ribbons and Trenton Wells was named the Champion-17 year old “Showman”.

Travelin, visitin and such: Friends of Morton Library celebrated Library Week recently with a display of a lovely Door Prize Gift Basket, treats and information on the advantage of membership in the Morton Public Library Friends Club. Several new members were added and Brenda Sims was the lucky winner of the Door Prize.
MSU/Scott County MHV Clubs hosted the 2025 Capital Area Fall Meeting on October 28 in the Scott County Extension Facility. More than 60 MHV members and guests attended. Featured speaker Tyler Hines, Roosevelt State Park Superintendent for MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks gave a most interesting presentation on the many improvements in the park and updates on present and future events at the park. Entertainment was a beautiful Mini-Concert by the outstanding East Central Community College Community Choral. Delicious breakfast treats and a lunch buffet, catered by Heather Compton, were very enjoyable additions of the day. Capital Area Counties attending were: Hinds, Leake, Madison, Rankin, Scott and Simpson. Morton MHV was represented by ten attendees.
Frisky Roland enjoyed a visit from Elizabeth Boozer Hearding and infant (2 Months) daughter Olivia last week. She came bearing a gift of her recently published book “The Old Home Place Tales From Boozer Hill” researched and written by her. Earlier she had interviewed Frisky on her fond memories of times spent there with her “Heart Sister” Beth Boozer and family from the time of their bonding while only four or five years old. A shout out to Elizabeth for her many years, days and hours painstakenly producing such a treasure for this exceptional family. The farm was designated a “Centennial Farm” following one hundred years of being an established “Home Place/Farm.
