Announcements: Sunday, November 16-Community Thanksgiving Service at Morton High School Auditorium, 5:00 p.m.
America/Morton “Keep America Beautiful” is asking all community citizens to pick up at least 250 pieces of litter per person in celebration of the 250th Birthday of America. Morton has pledged to enter this project. A city wide “Community Clean Up Day” will be announced in the near future.
A word of appreciation goes out to the administration and staff of S. E. Lackey Convalescent Home for their assistance with the recent celebration of Shirley Sawyer’s Birthday and to her friend/caregiver Tina Jolly for the delicious celebration cake.
Congratulations to: Mayor Jimmy Steadman honored with “Citizen of the Month” designation, sponsored by Priority One. As recently elected to serve City of Morton’s Mayor he is a graduate of Morton High School and completed his next level education at East Central Community College. He enjoyed a 50 year career in the automotive industry beginning with the Morton Chevrolet dealership. An avid sports fan he has also enjoyed 40 years as as official for high school football. As president of the Morton Touchdown Club he shows continual interest in the youth residing in Morton and surrounding area. A member of First Baptist Church of Morton during his rare leisure hours he includes Saturday treks to watch his favorite Ole Miss football team play when games are on campus or any time travel to away games is possible.

Travelin’, visitin’ and such: As usual on weekends when there are various sports events to attend the safety of all who travel in support of their teams receive our prayers.
Gary Mitchell has been gadding about lately with travels out of state. One with Paul McLemore for a deer hunt (succesful-bagged a big buck).
His most recent trip was a visit to the campus of Wake forest University in Greensboro, North Carolina. While there he and his daughter Michelle Jacobs were very pleased to visit their daughter/granddaughter Sara Godfrey who is a student there. He reports that travels were blessed by the spectacular fall scenery.

Members donated to the We Care Missions Adult Diaper Project (September), attended the monthly meeting at Morton Public Library, donated items/hours to the Brittney Memorial Closet, supported the Care Pantry at the library, donated needed OTC meds/supplies to the BMJ Middle School, Participated in the Scott County Homemakers Fair (won various Ribbon Awards and were represented at the Lunch and Learn Luncheon that followed, attended/hosted the MHV Capital Area meeting held at the MSU/Scott County Extension Service facility (donated door prizes), attended as a group at the memorial service for Member Bobbie Hodges (40 plus years of membership service), participated in the Friends of Morton Library Day and/donated hours and sweet treats in celebration of Library Week-held at Morton Public Library, provided a gift basket for a drawing and paid annual dues and recruited several new members, attended as a group for Birthday Anniversary celebration for member Shirley Sawyer at S. E. Lackey Convalescence Home (provided gifts and cards).
