Friends of Morton Public Library met on Thursday, January 19 beginning with a meal provided by officers and members. A business meeting providing Organization By Laws, calendars and receiving dues for the 2023 year was held. Fees are: Membership-$5, Family-$10, business-$20. Meetings are scheduled quarterly, the next to be in April. Everyone is invited/encouraged to join, use the services provided and enjoy the newly renovated facility, with many improvements due to the fund raising efforts of the organization.

To: All award winners attending the Annual Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers Awards Luncheon (for service efforts-2022) held at the MS/Scott County Extension Service Office on Wednesday, January 18. Those in attendance welcomed the new Scott County 4-H Agent, Rayne Tate. Approximately 20 staff members and MHV representatives attended, enjoying a delicious meal prepared by caterer, Ann Cahoon. Entertainment was provided by Sean Farrell performing an original song written by Sean and a couple favorite country tunes. Needless to say this opportunity to hear new talent in our area was quite well received. There were several winners in the Literacy category (those who read at least good books in the year)…Secretary Book Award-1st Place-Cluster Club, 2nd Place-Morton Club; Scrapbook Award-1st Place-Morton, 2nd Place-Cluster; Council Secretary Recognition-Kathy Warren; Environmental Concerns-Melvin Roland; Club Homemaker Volunteer of the Year: Cluster-Cynthia Slaughter Melton, Morton-Frisky Roland, Ringgold-Shirley Sullivan…Homemaker Volunteer Club of the Year-Morton…2022 Homemaker of the Year-Frisky Roland. All award winners received Certificates of Honor and monetary awards.
Prayers and concern for: Annie Marie Cabello (granddaughter of Vinnie and Brenda Scanks) and Johnny Ray Settlemire continued concern for Jeannie Easterling, Betty Eure, Jimmy Perritt, infant Oliver James Tabor and Ira Donald.

Travelin’, visitin’ and such: Members of Mississippi MHV-Morton club attending the Scott County Council Awards Luncheon (for services in 2022) Held the Mississippi/Scott County Extension Service facility were: Annie Brown, Bobbie Hodges, Florence Measells, Frisky Roland, Gail Griffin, Helen Watkins, Judy Stegall, Kathy Warren and Sarah Huff. Monetary awards received for services rendered to the communities, county and state throughout 2022 amounted to $185 donated to the club treasury. A word of appreciation goes out to the local club and the other clubs comprising the Scott County Council. Good job!
