Travelin’, visitin’ and such: From the desk of Pastor Shelia Cumbest Morton, United Methodist Church: Morton UMC was blessed to take a group to join in the mission of Rice and Beans Ministries to Alajuela, Costa Rica on July 22-29. Rice and Beans has been in existence about 14 years and began with a vision given to Fred Curry, Director, who is from Petal, Mississippi. We took 6 persons (Pastor Shelia, Ricky and Linda Hatch, Matt and Jennifer Bell and Melinda White) and joined with volunteers at Wells Memorial UMC, Jackson led by Rev. Chris Cumbest (spouse of Pastor Shelia) to make the team. “Rice and Beans Ministries seeks to build relationships, support families and communities, and care for those in need in Costa Rica. They do this through food ministry, children’s ministry, and construction ministry. They join hand in hand with local people to make a difference. They were joined by churches from Arkansas, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
