Don’t forget that Morton Homemaker Volunteers will meet at Morton Public Library on Wednesday, February 7 beginning at 1 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. Refreshments are served.
Those wishing to participate in the Miss Morton Pageant must pay the entrance fee of $40. (second entry in a family-$35) by Tuesday, February 20. For your convenience you may pay at Morton Chamber of Commerce office (bin on the wall), Morton High School, Morton Finance office and Creative Formals.
On Monday, February 5th Scott County SWCD will be giving away free trees at the USDA Service Center, Forest. Time-from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on a first come first serve basis. Species available are: Cherrybark, oak, bald cypress, Nutall, sawtooth oak, crepe myrtle, dogwood, pines, etc.
Congratulations to: MHS Girls Basketball Team on, once again, named # 10 in the state with a 20-1 season as reported in “The Clarion Ledger” sports section, Tuesday, January 23.

Travelin’, visitin’ and such: Members of the Morton Chamber of Commerce and guests attended the 64th Annual Meeting at Morton Activities Center-Farris Park. The evening began with young ladies, members of the MHS Beta Club serving a delicious Steak meal with all of the trimmings, prepared by Billy Meeks’ catering team. The Call to Order by Chamber President, Gordy Herring, with Fred Johnson delivering the Invocation. The guest Speaker was Knox Ross of Pelahatchie who made a very interesting talk on the accomplishments by the Morton businesses and citizens. The incoming president, Tina Adcox was welcomed to serve the 65th year of the Chamber then recognized the 2024 Board of directors Evan Derrick, Tito Echiburu, Pam Holman, Tyler Hines, Courtney Norris, Jamie Ross, Beverly Tadlock and newly elected members-Karen Callahan, Tom Miles, Barbara McBride, Jimmy Steadman and Tara Yates. Award Plaques honoring the service of the Retiring Directors were presented to the retirees. A very special Award of Appreciation was presented to Martha Rogers for her many years of service to the Chamber (President-1995 and 2004) and the citizens of Morton. President Tina gave remarks of appreciation for the honor to serve and Mayor Gerald Keeton gave a report on the ongoing progress of city of Morton and appreciation to the Morton Chamber of Commerce and his constituents. Other officers on the 2024 team are Vice President-Jimmy Brown and Executive Director-Lisa Alford (also honored for her hard work and dedication to the many varied programs sponsored the organization.)
