Dr. Dorothy Ann, “Dot-Dot”, Twiss passed away peacefully on 20 November, 2017 at the age of 89.
Dot Dot was born 17 July, 1928, in Texarkana, TX to Edna Earle and Sam Gleason and was raised in NW Louisiana with her younger sister Norie. She married 1st Lt Kenneth Stauffer, United States Army, 15 Feb, 1947 and after his death in Korea, married Armin R. Twiss on March 6, 1954.
She is survived by her sister, Lenora Norris of Bryan, TX.; her children, Kathleen and Dennis Jacobsen, Castlerock, WA.; Kevin G. and Kay Stauffer, Baton Rouge, LA.; Jeffrey Russell and Cathy Twiss, Gautier, MS.; and Jon Douglas Twiss, Jackson, MS.; and grandchildren Caroline and Brandon Turney, Tupelo, MS.; Scott A. and Jennifer Cooper, Pride, LA.; Jason Coker and Raquel Harper of Denver, CO; Janna Dorothy Coker of Portland, OR; and Jillian and Adam Schneider, White Salmon, WA ; three great grandchildren; Dixie, Parks, and Skip.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands (Kenn and Arnie), grandson (Sgt. Gale Stauffer) and best friends, (Ms. Ann and Elaine).
Dr. Twiss earned her college degree from Mississippi College, BA, and her PhD from University of Southern Mississippi in 1979. She was a professor of Creative Writing at Louisiana Poly-Technical University in Ruston, LA. from 1980 to 1993. Dot is published in numerous works of Poetry and other collections of Southern authors, most notably “Mississippi Writers, Recollections of Childhood and Youth”.
She was regarded by her peers as “extremely smart with a rapier wit” and “Don’t play scrabble with this woman”. Dot was a nationally ranked bridge player in the 60’s and 70’s. She was very active in her church and the communities she lived in throughout her beautiful life.
She will be remembered in a memorial service at Christ Lutheran Church, 290 Idema St., Shreveport, LA. With Interment of Ashes to follow.
