Jackie Sue Newsom Clark, 88, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2021 at her home surrounded by loved ones. Visitation was from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton, MS. Burial followed at Morton Memorial Gardens officiated by Rev. Kerry Gibson. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Jackie was born in El Dorado, Arkansas on May 28, 1932 to William Jackson Newsom and Sylvia Irene McKee Newsom. The family later moved to Jackson, Mississippi where she was raised. She graduated from Central High School and then attended the University of Mississippi. She later graduated from Mississippi College with a bachelor’s degree in Art. Jackie was a member of the Mississippi Opera and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She also was very skilled in painting and sculpting.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, William Jackson Newsom and Sylvia Irene McKee Newsom; her husband, Dr. Howard D. Clark; sons, John M. Rogers, Jr. and Christopher Allen Clark and sister, Sylvia Overstreet.
She is survived by her sisters, Carolyn Gay Raper (Sonny) and Debbie Gibson (Kerry); children, Rebecca Rogers, Carolyn Rogers Bevan-Thomas (Paul), Cathy Rogers, Jack Rogers and Angela Proctor; her step children, Neva Clark Jefcoat (Jere), Janie Clark Westberry, Patricia Clark Westberry, David Clark and Bettie Ann Clark Anderson; grandchildren, Allyson Schury (Johnny), Michael Wallis (Tricia), Andrew Bevan-Thomas, William Bevan-Thomas, Isabelle Bevan-Thomas, Zachary Flores, Hays Rogers, Max Rogers, Ellie Rogers, Jackson Rogers, Devon Rogers (John Wilson), Hannah Proctor, Jacob Proctor, Samuel Proctor, and Phoebe Proctor and great-grandchildren, Brooks Wallis and Grace Wallis.
